Inconstant.
You keep saying that, but he mostly fights only beastly strong foes and does well against them. He beat Jose, and didn't beat the significantly-stronger-than-Jose Hades but did wreck his airship, block his cannon, and defend against several of his attacks include defend against a gigantic explosion attack.
Unless he's sick or wounded, he consistently is very powerful.
Not true.
Uh, yes? Pre-skip Jura's only faced Hoteyes and Brain (*not* Zero form, just Brain). Who among them is Jose's level?
Why do you think that's relevant to what I said? It is not as though Fairy Law nullifies itself when cast on itself.
The implication was if both are cast there'd be a massively destructive effect that'd devastate both sides. The word cataclysm was tossed around.
Sounds pretty relevant to me, you can't just cast Law if your foe has it too.
Giving someone trouble is not the same thing as beating them: that's where you problem sits in your understanding.
I'm not confusing them. Hades was multiple times stronger than Jura. Someone who beats Hades should have no problem with Jura.
It's like saying "Someone who beats Laxus should have no problem with Elfman." Elfman isn't close to Laxus, so if someone did beat Laxus, I wouldn't say Elfman would put up much of a fight.
You're downplaying Jura if you think Natsu and Gray are of similar level as the same version of Jura that fought the OS. That comparson is not even legit as there are even differing levels of OS within their own ranks. But, this is usually how our discussions go.
Jura is definitely stronger than them, but not that much. The OS outmatched Natsu and Gray a bit, in a fight. Conversely, when Jura was fighting OS, he wasn't outmatched and had some edge on them.
In neither case was the gap big. Jura was stronger, but not massively stronger. All of them can rumble with Oracion Seis members and it'll be a real battle.
Hades and Jose were each worth multiple people of Natsu/Gray level. The OS weren't, and nor was Jura.

That's hardly a flesh wound.
Considering his flesh seems to be bleeding a bit but it didn't penetrate very far, that's exactly what it is.
Also, the Jupiter cannon seems to be on par with a city block or two buster: not all that powerful if you consider just the fists colliding between Gildartz and Bluenote.
Jupiter cannons deal that much collateral damage even when blocked. The Phantom Lord one was supposed to wipe out the entire guild were it not for Erza. It was strong enough to take down Erza, and it caused a lot of destruction on the way.
(We've never actually seen an unblocked Jupiter cannon, btw)
Don't forget that that's definitely not the most major attack Makarov defended against for that matter, by a good margin. The Amaterasu formula 100 spell Hades did caused damage across the entire island:
Which is, I will note, a good deal bigger than this clash between Gildartz and Bluenote.
So what is the actual argument, now?
That's basically my question.
Why is Laxus and Jura not beating anyone as impressive as Jose and never defending against spells as big as Makarov has somehow more impressive?
Why is Makarov blocking attacks larger than Bluenotes' not even rating Laxus's level with you, let alone Gildartz?
