Least favorite of the entire series: ALL OF THE GAROU KNIGHTS!!! I hated them the moment I saw them because I knew they were designed solely as a time-consuming obstruction. "Oh, yay. A questionably obligatory band of forgettable roadblocks with obnoxious, meaningless gimmicks. Get used as a speedbump already!" I feel bad for Gruvia (Grey x Juvia) that they got essentially back burned while Natsu and gang pulled focus for three episodes against these f**kers! Then they came back again at the end of the tournament just to piss me off one more time!
Least favorite of the (main) guild: As it stands, probably Erza because I blame her for most of the series's loss of tension. Ever since Azuma, her fights have become predictable and formulaic. The fight starts and proceeds with her getting her ass beat relentlessly, then she just f** king wins like it was nothing. That's my biggest issue with her; she's such a damn perfectionist, and it makes her all the less believable and relatable as a character. I respect her for being among few empowered shonen females who's allowed to get away with having enjoyable social quirks, but rendering her a living, breathing plot device kinda ruins it for me. 😬

True, but more often than either of them, Grey is reasonably fallible. It's just another reason I favor him; because he makes mistakes (something Erza now seems unfamiliar with), and he learns from them. His rematch with Rufus is an example of this (but probably not the best, I'll admit). For relatability's sake, he makes more sense.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate or even really dislike Erza. I just don't like how convenient things have become with her.

I think I let a lot of Erza's OP stuff slide just because this is one of the first mangas I have read where females are as strong as the males in most respects. Bu itt does get a little old her winning do to plot armor. maybe if she just won based off superior swordplay or actual martial arts instead of having the armor for every particular situation that can happen in the world.

The hatred of that armor is so overblown. Wait until it does something lol. And I can very easily hate Laxus. I simply don't feel the need to be very vocal since clearly he's liked.
And the arc isn't that bad. It is certainly a weak arc for Fairy Tail but I could read it again. It is way better than Fishman Island lol.

It did pull a hype-swerve to be sure. Looking like it'd be a 'claw their way up,' but really their most dominant arc yet.
Though on a re-read and adjusted expectations, I find it's better than the first time.
Mavis is my favorite character so seeing her get a spin-off is way cool.
Were I to rewrite the tournament arc I would have Laxus struggle with Raven Tail before breaking the illusion, whereupon Makarov comes in and wrecks his sons shit. Cana would also not have used Fairy Glitter to win a competition that really Jura deserved to win. And obviously some of the fights like Rogue/Sting vs Natsu/Gajeel, and most of the fights in the final round would be adjusted to be suitably epic. Like having the three way fights be actual 3 way fights.
But really I think the hatred of the tournament is kind of overblown.
I don't hate it, but it really betrayed its own expectations and that which it provides the audience.
I'm kinda with you on that rewrite. One thing I would do it is at least put a little more focus into the last fights instead of just blowing past them to get to the next thing. This goes back to what I said earlier about how I hated the Garou Knights. You can't tell me an unnecessary amount of time was spent dealing with them that could have instead been invested in the last moments of the tournament.
The Mavid spin off was pretty good. Now as long as she doesn't do something annoying this will be an awesome spinoff.
As for a redo of the Tournament arc, of all the things that could be changed I feel Laxus beating up his pops should be exclusive to him. Oh and getting rid of Erza's (implied) baby Jesus armor and having her barely win on her own merits.

I'm kind of cooler with Fairy Tail owning everyone and everything after I just came to terms with the fact they were regaining their position as #1 guild. After all they did go through hell during the tenebraum(whatever you spell the island's name) and beat the #1 Dark guild which was equally, or more so, hacked than Fairy Tail itself in the island.
I feel like Q99's comment about Fairy Tail being all about the ride is spot on about the entire show in general. You know Fairy Tail will just own everything in the end, so might as well just enjoy the ride. I will do this from now on. Will save me the headaches induced by Erza, Laxus and Natsu soloing the dragon slayer duo. I only wish they didn't fkn ruin the characters(as in FT's opponents) in the process.
