Batman: Arkham City

Yeah, those are exactly what I meant by bigger guys and I was having a big problem with the very first combat mission with them, but I guess that was just because I was trying to save him until the end.

However, after watching a few videos on some combat missions, your help there makes much more sense and I'm feeling pretty pumped to get into it again.

And after watching some videos on the predator missions, your point on how they make it look really easy is ridiculously true. This one video had Catwoman shadowing a henchman at the very beginning. I guess after doign it so much, they get pretty cocky.

Hmm, probably.

And yeah, perhaps so. I find doing the whole beatdown on one guard thing to be suicidal when there's still other enemies around, as it completely gives away your position.

yay! finally got the game

Just finished this on New Game Plus.

Gotta say was very satisfying. Was difficult for sure, but it was in that good spot where it didn't really ever feel cheap. Having the counter prompts being taken away was jarring at first but it definitely makes you better at the game once you get used to them being gone.

Same. If I can, I'll quiet takedown as many as I can. It surprised me a lot when he did that to so many of them, especially when he had perfect opportunities to do it silently. But it worked out for him, clearly. His other videos make for some really good guides.

I'm really looking forward to starting New Game +. I have way too much to do with essays and whatnot right now, which is why I started the Riddler challenges rather than start a new game.

I'm kind of worried about the lack of icons to reverse.

You'll get used to it pretty quickly. The only time that I thought it was really problematic was when fighting the enemies with swords, because sometimes their blade attacks count as a normal attack, and other times their attacks count as a knife attack, and since countering both requires different timing it was a bit of a pain.

Also the

Mr Freeze
fight was very tough on New Game Plus. It took me probably about 90 minutes to beat him.

What are some things that you guys feel Arkham Asylum did better the first time around?

I think Arkham City is a darker game but I enjoyed the more horror-esque vibe that the first game gave off. The crazy zombie-like patients running around at first in the story mode caught me off guard.

I also miss the sounds of the bones breaking when you perform a takedown. That new "sound" is in this game that takes away from that. Like, I don't mind the "sound" when I knock an enemy out with a blow or punch but if I break their arm or leg I'd rather hear the cracking sound the first game gave me.

I also miss the patient interviews. As far as the Joker and Victor phone calls go I don't know why you can't play them back and listen to them while you play like you could do in the first game.

The look of these two games is distinct as well. Batman looks cleaner and neater in this game whereas in Arkham Asylum he looked grittier along with everything else in the game.

Also, how come there is no armored suit like he had in the first game.

This game has patient interviews, too. In fact I'd say they're even better in AC than AA. You get them as you finish riddler challenges.

The main difference is the linearity, which kinda affects the story. It's a little less focused in AC than in AA, but it's still just as good if not better because of the content.

I like the looseness of the game's linearity this time. I think it's better for it. I like the fact that when I start the game I am overwhelmed with options and tasks. It makes you feel like a superhero and puts you in Batman's shoes.

I actually just did a campaign as Catwoman and for one of the missions, took away the counter icons, and I was very surprised with how well I did. There weren't any sword or knife users, but I got used to it pretty quickly. So, that made me feel better about it. We'll see once the knife and sword users come...

And yeah, I have heard some horror stories about that fight...I'm really looking forward to it and I'm really not looking forward to it.

Just got my copy of the game. Will be having fun with this game although I won't be able to play as catwoman. Oh well youtube.

You really are missing out, in my opinion, in playing as Catwoman. I easily prefer Batman while running the streets, but for the challenges and some combat in general, I'm really starting to prefer her.

I don't think he's missing that much personally, aside from some side story bit, but it's kind of a miniscule part of the game story overall.

Catwoman ended up being my least preferred character when it came to the Riddler's Revenge challenges (at least the predator ones).

Story bit, he's not missing out at all, due to the rather small nature of her story. I've yet to really get into the predator challenges, but for the combat challenges, I'm really starting to prefer Catwoman, so that's where I'm coming from by saying he's missing out, she's fun to play as in the combat challenges.

I hate playing as Catwoman in the game.

Batman is the most fun to play with in the combat challenges. It is so badass to snatch a machine gun and disassemble it in front of a thug, or bend a metal bar, snap apart a baseball bat, etc.

Clearly I am alone in my opinions.

Oh, that I can agree with then, just because I like some of her combo moves, but her ground takedown takes too damn long to do compared to Batman. Other than that though she can fight faster, I'll give her that much.

Can understand that too..

Not to mention, Catwoman can't ride on a Titan and use him to attack other thugs like Batman and Nightwing can for some reason.

I get annoyed that you spent most of the game playing as Batman and then for a few times, you play as a different character that controls similar but different. Instead of glide boosting and having the ability to bat claw everywhere, Catwoman way of getting around is bloody tedious. I hate how you get around.

As well, she has much less protection but the bad guys are the same so getting found by them (which is pretty easy) is frustrating.

In my opinion, I wouldn't mind as much if all the Catwoman segments were specifically designed for her attributes completely and the environments were different than Batman's.

Got a 136 hit combo during just my 2nd map playing as Robin. Come at me.
