Superman Vs Wonderwoman

As I said before, the answer to this question is two-fold.

The first is that there are good in-story reasons. Superman is under control. Someone else needs to free him. All other immediately available heroes are potential pawns; Wonder Woman is the only one equipped under the story's circumstances to save Superman.

The second answer, however, is the fourth-wall answer, and is what made your question interesting. Rucka chose to end the "Superman" storyline, as you call it, in a Wonder Woman title, in order to boost sales.

That can be stated as the reason for nearly everything that happens in the industry, of course, but this is one of the few times where that strategy worked, and worked WELL.
So well, in fact, that you can demonstrate the fact of increased sales via chart, as one poster on now-gone DC Comics Message Boards was kind enough to do for viewers on that forum.

The figures that back up the chart can be found via a number of archives and sources. In all likelihood I myself will post them if allowed. In the meantime, examine the attachment. Note the trend of the average comic is to start high and drop to a stable but low finishing point. Typically, a high peak is found when a comic is re-numbered. Note how high Wonder Woman Volume 3, #1 is, for instance. (People LOVE to collect #1s.)
Note however, the second highest peak in that period, which spans a length of several YEARS, is the Superman/Wonder Woman fight issue, Wonder Woman #219, Volume 2. More remarkably than THAT, though, note that sales remained SEVERAL THOUSAND units higher than what they had been before that point, and stayed that way until the end of Rucka's run.

That couldn't be done in a superman comic, why? Characters get mind-controlled a lot in comics and it wasn't the first moment that superman got mind-controlled either. In other words it was just to give wonder woman fans a story where she looks good against superman. I remember wonder woman fangirls screaming murder when gail simone said that wonder woman is weaker than superman in strength.

I guess at some point some one will answer why Wonder Woman was saved by the writer.

The same way I answer the light argument.

Is not a mystery DC likes to keep WW vs Superman comics on suspense this was even done in the PC era vs PC Superman, I wonder if You will also claim PC WW is as powerful as PC Superman too just because she stalemated PC Superman.

In any case lets go back at the Sacrifice topic.

Is clear Rucka had to save Wonder Woman.

I wonder if You see Superman's hallucinations as an advantage or as a handicap

She couldn't even fly back then.

At some point this starts sounding like Hulk "stalemating" Thor, when Thor becomes an idiot fighting Hulk.

I remember when I read this issue I was like "WTF?" 😘

Superman can take a hit, but he is still taken aback by something that can cut through his aura like it's not even there, like Diana's enchanted weapons (or the enchanted claws of Vixen or Equus etc.) if Diana was fully blood lusted she could finish him, instead of letting him use his power to heal up just so she could buy time.

Thanks for the 411, I did not know Superman could be cut by enchanted weapons. surprise

You talking about this issue

It was a joke. It wasn't even Earth-one wonder woman, it was Earth-two wonder woman.

In all seriousness, where did the argument that she was stronger/more powerful than him come from?

Yes the same one

'Cuz Sacrifice. I guess.

Let me give you an argument I heard at some point.

"Wonder Woman is as physically strong as Superman but Superman hits harder because Superman's durability is higher."

At some point it makes sense someone who is more durable can hit harder.

But the We compare common foes and it does not make sense

,

,

Then think about WW not having explicit weaknesses and the no limits fallacy comes into play.

I was into the same debate a couple of months ago.

I think she is strong just not as some people may think she is.

Something worth mentioning here

I was checking the bios for the Marvel vs DC comics and Wonder Woman, Hulk, Lobo and Superman are said to have VAST Superhuman strength.

While Thor is said to have Super human strength and CM Hercules strength.

That's all? He's more durable so he hits harder?

Yep, that was all I heard.

I think at some point they mentioned speed too.

But they base this on how WW has performed vs Billy, Captain Atom and some other common foes.

Oh also how she performed vs Hercules compared to Superman

I really don't understand how people can argue that she's stronger.

Faster? I can understand it as long as people use the actual examples that qualify, though personally I'd write them as being equals in combat speed myself.

Me neither, I can understand arguing about she is stronger than many will think, but not stronger than superman

Alas, DCMB is closed but someone named guest2 argued that since diana has the strength of gaea greater than hercules who is as strong as superman as he sucker punched superman away in JSA, so she is stronger than him. The thread title was "How many times is wonder woman stronger than superman" and it had more than 600 replies IIRC. Our dear bluewaterrider thinks that too apparently

'Nuff said.

2) Wonder Woman

Strength of Gaea herself.
And Gaea is LITERALLY a goddess who is the size of planet Earth.

Conceptually, Diana could have done the following solo:

3) WWH (world war hulk series)

Endured everything Sentry could dish out.
Sentry, who is Marvel's answer to Superman.
Sentry, who also has a calming aura that should theoretically NEGATE his "madder makes stronger" power. Hulk still won.
Strong suggestion, then, that Hulk is stronger.

4) Superman

5) Classic Thor

Drax (no gem)?
Apocalypse(at 30 feet)?
Ultimate Colossus -- A powerhouse in his own right; the weakest link here.

mmm

Good picture in that "tinypic" link, Abhi.

I know where that originally comes from, too:

Also, let's use KMC's own Image Host Provider to preserve that scan in case TinyPic ever goes down or out...

It's worth keeping.

Interesting to note with that JLA v1 #75 earthpull feat, too:

Superman asks for time in the sunlight to get stronger ...

He was just resurrected after being dead for 3000 years. You think that he was at full strength with no time to recharge his solar reserves?
