"I have a bad feeling about this ..."

(sorry, had to do it)

Well... you have a bunch of dead things. Any plan?

Well, seeing as you guys are silent, time for the Padawans to play!

"I think some of these were trampled by each other in the stampede," says Essalin. "And then something ate them."

"It's all part of the ecology of this world," says D'an. "It's the Atrii that are the odd ones out. They are getting caught in the crossfire... they should have been safe in the cities."

"What killed the ones that weren't crushed?" asks Sunda.

The ones that were eaten - does it look like they were ripped apart over time by many smaller creatures or one monstrous sized one?

They were all eaten!

Well, let's go take a look! How is your Observation?

Jelena smiles upon her Padawan.

"Very astute," Jelena says, pleased with Essallin's intelect. "It is possible indeed that something smaller spooked the Merongam, the way a grain mouse may scare an oliphant, intending for them to trample each other. Very astute indeed."

Jelena will examine the trampled Merongam. She has an Observation pool of 5.

Yes, a bunch of smaller creatures have torn the flesh from these and eaten them.

But... a bunch of them are eaten to the bone, too. And those with Survival can tell you that this is rather unusual for your average hunting beast.

Possibly scavengers? Ones that come in after the kill to pick over what is left?
So what we learned so far.
They are easily spooked, and in their stampede they tend to kill each other. This is a tactic used by a smaller scavenger/predator that eats the trampled Merogam.

Some sort of extremely vicious and thorough scavenger, if so. Also able to easily get to all angles; they have been stripped to the bone from on top as well.

Are there any footprints left around the animals? They might tell us something more?

Not good ground for footprints- the stampede covers all.

Is there any possibility that humanoid creatures with the right tools could have butchered the animals for their meat?

Nah.

"Perhaps a swarm of small voracious creatures cleaned up after the predaotrs here?" Andro ventures.

(Think Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. Killer Ant Swarm?)

Survival roll to try and make an id!

I don't have a very good survival. Someone else do it.

Silently, Denzral commented that they could almost claim they killed the beasts and get a move on. There were much more important things to do. He took a long glance around the clearing.

Killed AND ate them, eh? Impressive.

Vera-Kin will make the check to see if Andro's supposition is possible.

As she does this, she discounts Denzral's idea. "We are Jedi. We do this honestly."

Are there specific teeth mark on the beasts? It might give us a clue if they are carnivore or omnivore...
