Alright! good roll by Relle has found someone.

In general- yes, this is Green level; enough broken down bits of stuff from the mine tell you that. It is ramshackle and degenerate- and everyone is isolated. There do not appear to be any organised gangs; just toughs, maybe with a few toadies.

But Relle has found someone civilised and reasonable- his name is Almir Salan, a thin and bookish looking human, and he'll happily talk to you in return for you making sure others don't beat him up.

"Nice moves," he adds.

Relle is happy to have found someone useful and tells Almir that they will protect him. She thanks him for the compliment.

"We were told that the first level was the red level," Relle says. "Why did we start on the green?"

"Ah, well, what you have to understand is, they are pretty exclusive on red level. The air conditioning doesn't work you see."

Indeed- it is pretty foul down here.

"Red, being close to the surface, is the only place with good air. So the people up there... they are the strong ones; the gangs, the warlords, the godfathers and so on. They don't let anyone else in. Of course, every so often a bunch of newbies arrive that they don't want, so they built a makeshift extension to the entry tunnel so it went down deeper."

"How do we get up there?" Galder asks, having come with Relle. "Or down lower?"

That must have been the jagged part that we got hurt on when we fell in.

Indeed!

"Well, there are stairs up," he says. "But they've been sealed."

"How?" Galder asks.

Remember guys, don't let him or anyone know about our escape route.

"They've welded enormous metal gates across them, and surrounded the area with dug trenches, murder holes up top. It's virtually impregnable."

"So how often do they decide to let someone who's proven themselves from the lower levels up there?" Rianna asks.

"Not often. You have to REALLY prove yourselves to them. Takes a long time."

"Hmph. We'll come back to that. What do you know about the other levels, blue and black?"

"Ha ha... oh, you are serious? Oh. Well... don't go down there."

Galder frowns.

"Why not?"

"As soon as you try and get into blue, the lurkers will kill you."

Rand is pleased that we have found someone intelligent after his failure with Alven.

"The lurkers? What are those, pray tell?"

He looks uncomfortable.

"There are... 'things' down there," he says.

"Do you know anything about them?" Rand presses.

"This has been a harsh place over the centuries," he says. "Aliens from a hundred different cultures have been sent here for life. Some of them bred- horrible, mutant cross-bred things. Most died, but some didn't. They slithered down to the dark places that no-one else would or could live in. And then they started to breed themselves."

"Ah, I see," Rand says, looking over to Rianna. "Perhaps they disappear those people so that they may feed their growing numbers."

Then he looks back to Rand.

"Is that all that is there? How about the black level?"

"Well, there's nothing at all on black. No-one can go there anyway, not even the lurkers."

"Can't or won't?" Galder asks.
