PR was way campier but that also made it more FUN!

Some thing WB seems not to understand any more.

Fun = Bad!

WTF WB!?

In terms of comparing this to Pacific Rim, I feel that had a more interesting plot and concepts, a more immersible world, and more fleshed out and interesting characters. It's hard to compare visuals, because while Pacific Rim was far more extravagant (sure Godzilla flipped over some ships and took a nuke, but Gypsy Danger swung a ship like a bat and took a nuke underwater), the human POV shots and excellent wide shots made the viewing experience very realistic and enthralling. And of, course, there is a complete polar opposite tonal difference, whereas the PR Kaiju are alien invaders who wish to overtake Earth for world domination, the MUTOs and Godzilla are primordial titans who have been awakened after eons of slumber, and threaten humanity merely by existing, because they will take their rightful place as Earth's dominant species. Godzilla is a criticism of mankind's arrogance, whereas Pacific Rim is an optimistic look at mankind's ingenuity and hope.

Like I said, it all depends on what you want out of the film. If you want a more realistic look at a monster battle and it's aftermath Godzilla would be preferable, but if you want a more imaginative and immersible world with monster battles, Pacific Rim is preferable. I like both, so that's why I'm torn. Both were blockbuster Demille-like spectacles which entertained the shit out of me in the theater. No reason not to like them both the same 🙂

I really enjoyed this film and thought it was better than Pacific Rim

Also, while the action in this is great, I still think MOS has this and Pacific Rim beat out for best action sequences. Not script, but action.

Yeah I agree the only thing I had against the action in MOS was 90% of it was CGI and speedblitzing. Got tired of seeing blurrs all the time. I really liked the action in the winter soldier the best personally.

Winder Soldier's action was great. It gets my vote over Man of Steel's because it is indeed better to watch actual humans doing these fight scenes. Gives it a more realistic touch. Having said that I am 100% pleased with Man of Steel's CGI and speed exploitation. It was what I always wanted to see in a Superman film. I wanted to see and feel how super powered beings on Superman's caliber would fight. Man of Steel more than delivered and given the power level we are talking about it would be really, really hard to accomplish the same feel without the use of CGI. These were 4 Superman level beings going at it. Of course CGI will have to be overused.

I think Pacific Rim is better than Godzilla because it didn't take itself too serious and just delivered mindless Kaiju action.

I would definitely say Pacific Rim is more memorable and imaginative. Godzilla was a great monster movie like Cloverfield, but Pacific Rim was more than that and strove to be more spectacular. Then again, Godzilla strove to be more realistic and immersive. They both succeeded in their goals IMO.

I agree. I really liked Gojira. Its just that if it was for me I would have had Godzilla duke it out with mutos for the 2 hours. Fuq humans. Fuq story.

I understand why they held off and the foreboding tone they were going for. In terms of the film itself, it was a smart move, but in terms of entertainment, it was not as spectacular as Pacific Rim IMO.

I also forgot to mention some annoying shit that happened when I was watching the film. Apparently the audience I went to see this with were complete retards, because twice, when they first revealed the MUTOs name and when Serizawa first said Gojira, my audience started erupting in uproarious laughter. I even missed out on some of the dialogue. Phucking idiots. Probably the same people who like Bayformers.

Pacific Rim is better it has a crappy story but the cgi action makes you forget it.

While with Godzilla it's the other way around.

Obviously this is just opinion but I don;t necessarily agree that Pacific Rim was more memorable. I will agree that it was fun to watch overall I thought Godzilla was just a better movie from my perspective.

And I'm not an advocate of every film needs to take itself over the top serious but I think there are times and tone that do require it.

This Godzilla film definitely fit into that category and I greatly enjoyed the effort that went into this movie and the little details created a great atmosphere.

Of course you have different opinions and I can respect that.

I will say that Godzilla was definitely more suspenseful and thrilling.

Despite being a fan of the genre (as is fairly evident by my avatar/sig), I was not a fan of Pacific Rim. At all. I didn't even enjoy the fights.

Godzilla is a better movie. Its just that I usually don't give a single flying **** about stories in these type of movies.

Same here I just want my cgi action.
I honestly cant give a phuck about humans in movies like this....

Thing is, unlike Pacific Rim, the humans were completely useless in this film, and they ultimately were the worst threat to themselves. The only reason they were in immediate danger, besides MUTO repopulation anyways, was because of the nuke that they didn't even need.

I'm okay with humans as long as they are used to enhance the scenes which I think they did here. I prefer a scene carrying more weight than more CGI action most of the time.

Here I felt the monsters were more of a threat because the human performances I think captured that feeling of helplessness.

I'd actually say Godzilla has every-bit as much action as Pacific Rim. The difference is, whereas Pacific Rim's action is a bunch of fights, Godzilla's action is more in the vein of Jurassic Park's and Alien's where the human character are running and hiding from the monsters.

What Im saying that there are ass load of useless stuff in movies like this.
I cant care about the little japanese kid who got left on the train.
Neither about Aaron's annoying wife yet they force you to watch all that nonsense.
