(i assume anticipating the speed and firing a little bit in front of the is out of my skill...)

How rugged is the floor of this lift? Could we consider placing some sort of charge beneath it and detonating it to blow lift car up the elevator shaft? 😱 😑

(Or we could try what Neo and Trinity did in the Matrix. Grab the cord, shoot the cord free of the lift, and fly up the shaft and grab onto something.)

Galder looks up to see if he can see the top. He takes out his electrobinoculars just in case it's a long ways off.

(Good idea but what about the astrolabe being that little bit heavy?)

I think Galder is onto something- it being a maintenance lift the cord is huge and could support you guys.

Deflection shooting is indeed not your strong suit, Takuan. You are just about to try and draw a bead on an attacker when your view lurches to one side as Saar twists the ship out of the firing path.

"Grab a hold of the cord, Baylin, we're going up," Galder says, grabbing onto it with his mechanical arm with all the strength he can. "I'll cut it, you hold onto the Astrolabe."

He tries to get a steady target and fire at it

Of course he can fly it! It's built into his template...

You have three ships bearing in on you, Takuan. They are faster than this ship. One is trying to overtake you an swing around to attack from the front. One is making a direct run on your rear, but spiralling to present a harder target. The thrid is racing up on a low angle.

Galder, you sever the cord and the two of you are flung up the lift shaft... of course, STOPPING this thing might be quite tricky...

Holding on tight Rah screams excitedly "WOO HOOO..."
Then with a sudden thought "Galder how do we stop this thing?"

"We jump off, that's how!" Galder shouts excitedly over the rush of air.

"Oh, ok...." then with a grin "You're f**king crazy!" 😄

"If I wasn't, I wouldn't be with Kuylen and have blown myself up twice today!" Galder hollers with an insidious grin. "Woohooooooooooooooooo!!!"

You spray fire neatly all around it, Takuan, as it continues to spin. You think you made the odd hit, but it hasn't made much difference... you wish these guys would stand still! He is about to make his attack run...

The lift is 'plunging' upwards very fast. You guys might be able to time jumping off at the right point before being smashed to pieces above. But NOT with the Astrolabe!

(What if we cut through and into the lift while it was going up? It is going up apparently, right?)

"How strong is your syntherope Galder?" Rah says thinking hard "If we tied the Astrolabe with plenty of slack, jumped off and then secured the rope. When the lift smashes at the top the Astrolabe will come falling down. We could then haul it back to us..."

"Sounds like we could give it a try," Galder says, bringing out a packet of synth rope and quickly wrapping it around the Astrolabe nice and tight with Rah's help.

Singing gently Rah concentrates, gathers the force to ensure the perfect timing of the jump...

The Astrolabe has VERY fragile working parts! It cannot possibly survive the crashing of the lift!
