Comic Book Martial Artist Hierarchy

Started by Nibedicus83 pages

I wonder how comic book martial artists would rank against anime martial artists as most every anime character is essentially powerful because of their martial prowess.

Depends where you cap it. If you view Sasuke from Naruto as a human who is powerful based on his skill he stomps Val out easily. Non super powered MA (ie.: Chakra, Ki, Reitsu...) and are solely using techniques available in the MU/DCNU. Ryoga for example from Ranma 1/2 is class 100 and can fire building busting blasts of concentrated emotion.

Anime martial artists are basically supernatural like Iron Fist and his kin. And their heights tend to reach as high as you can imagine with comic characters. They can be Superman-level and beyond.

In other words, most comic characters'd get their butts kicked. Someone as diminutive as Sakura from Naruto would wreck Batman, Captain America and Wolverine with her pinky.

Didn't Roshi blow up the moon or something in Dragonball? That's all skill based power as well.

^ Yes, he did.

Yeah, so DBZ level martial arts are basically gonna give you win against anyone else with normal human stats.

My thought was more: would they consider the powers gained via skill (like chakra manipulation, enhanced strength/speed, levitation/flight/leaping, etc.) as something outside what is considered "martial ability" (and thus not consider it in the criteria of ranking such characters) or would they be added onto the martial ability level of said characters (making many characters rank unusually high. Roshi for example would be leagues above even KK). Would new tier levels be needed? Genuinely curious on this.

Well, people can feel differently about this, but comic martial artists like Iron Fist and Temugin I think are generally considered higher tier martial artists because of the random esoteric abilities they can utilize through their martial prowess.

So it shouldn't be any different with anime characters otherwise that'd be a double standard. There are street-level mutants, meta-level mutants, high herald-level mutants, even Abstract-level mutants. The same should extend to martial artists. It's just that American comics don't really have any so people aren't used to seeing it. Manga has plenty though. It's just how it is.

Varies so very much.

Many anime martial arts effectively gives superpowers. Some don't. Exotic stuff is way more common, except in series where it's not.

Bump.

this is an utter sh!t show of a thread.... is there any actual "current" list, or is the one xmark used on the opening page still the one that is being used as a general guide....?

this should be closed and restarted. too much sh!t to possibly wade through.

In the DCnU, Batman stated that Cassandra Cain AKA Orphan might be the best fighter in the world.

Jason Todd is easily top tier now. Owning Shiva and whatnot. Even doing MUCH better against Cassandra than Dick Grayson.

Batgirl (Barbra) will probably get an upgrade as she will train with Grandmasters in the upcoming Relaunch.

geebus h.....

this should work like the other threads--have a list that is used as a general guide then lock it and open on rare occasions where it is needed.

Mantis has never done anything to be on that level. Neither have Warlock and Mar-vell. Thanos doesn't belongs there at all.

That's the worst list I have ever seen. The majority (more than 50%) of the list is flat out wrong.

Not necessarily. Jason trainers are said to be the best on DC's earth. They can do Iron Fist types of things and beyond. The Untitled are nothing to sneeze at.

Jason also beat Batman off panel, too, if that makes you feel better.

It just makes it worse, tbh.
