Mortal Kombat 9

So hmm how does the game feel gameplay wise? Are the animations fluid or are they as stiff as ever?

I'm split between this game and Portal 2 and I don't wanna make the wrong purchase =\. Will probably settle on P2 since SSF4 and MVC3 are enough...and I don't want to end up regretting buying this like Deadly Alliance

I've not encountered any stiffness in this game at all. It's way more fluid and a heck of a lot more deep this time so you've got to really work for your skills here (they weren't kidding when they said they're catering to the hardcore players).

I'm a huge fan of the original MK series but the last one (MK vs DC) sucked so very very badly I'm excited to see it go back to the old school.

I'm wanting to get the new game and probably even go up to tourney edition. Something I never do for video games but MK was always my favorite game ever. I wonder thou if the Tournament Edition is worth the extra.

Also I have both a PS3 and 360, and I pretty much always prefer game play on 360 being allot faster and smoother than PS3. Hell aside from Blu Ray I almost never even use the PS3 anymore because I just hate the constant upgrades but I kinda want Kratos.

Are there any advantages to the 360 version over the PS3 or is it really worth it all around to jus deal with the PS3 to get their extras?

Basically I wanna ask your opinions on which version of the game is the best to get. Normal or Tournament Edition and PS3 or 360?

Please keep in mind I never really get special edition games and pretty much always tent to prefer 360 but if the game is better all around for PS3 I'll try it.

This is the best game the MK franchise has seen in a long time.

The animations are outstanding and very fluid. The gameplay is basically the gameplay from MKII but with combos (kombos?) The game is just outstanding. The stages themselves are among the most stunning stages I've seen in a fighting game, they're so good that sometimes you just want to stop fighting and look at them, there's all sorts of awesome shit in the background, and there's lots of them, too.

Also the storyline mode is a pure joy. MK has always had a really cool backstory and awesome lore, but we never really got to hear about them in the original games because of the limitations of the medium. Here though, you get roughly a 6 hour campaign filled with cutscenes telling the story of the first three games from multiple perspectives, I can't praise this aspect of the game enough.

I haven't played it online yet, but there's a ton of single player content and lots of unlockables.

Every fighter feels unique. Not like the older games where there was a lot of simple skin changes of the same character. Every character has their own speed and strength rating, along with unique move sets.

This is the first MK game I've played since MK3 that actually FEELS like a Mortal Kombat game. They recaptured the magic.

I highly recommend it.

@Entity. As far as the different versions go, they're identical aside from the PS3 having Kratos as a character as far as I know.

I've been really enjoying playing this game.

The story mode was a lot of fun.

Went to gamestop and bought this. I saw New Vegas for 20 bucks and said "Screw it!" and bought both. Thanks for the input guys will play it sometime later tonight. Be freezin' people up!

Playing ladder mode on expert level difficulty... you might as well not even try against Shao Kahn. It doesn't make a difference.

If you manage to corner him and spam some projectiles, or do one of Noob Saibot's cheap moves against him constantly, I reckon it can't be that hard. Have yet to try it on that difficulty myself though, as I'm mostly focusing on getting the arcade endings and alt costumes for everyone first. One trophy/achievement at a time. ~

Indeed they weren't.

I played this game last night for several hours at friend's place.

I absolutely hated Mortal Kombat from Deadly Alliance onwards, but this game has brought me back to the series. I haven't enjoyed a Mortal Kombat game in so long.

I'm looking for any videos that features a Scorpion vs. Kratos match.

I really want to see those two go at it.

Been on today and i notice Mortal Kombat avatar items to buy but when i go to check it out i can't buy, they've removed them on Oz Xbox live.

I can't seem to get classic Smoke to appear out of the woods like this for the life of me. 🙁

YouTube video

Yeah, it's a trophy/achievement. Already got the one for pressing block while Noob Saibot temporarily appeared in the background of another stage. There's also one for getting a double flawless on the Pit II (night version) while doing a stage fatality (thus giving you the opportunity to face MK1 Reptile), but only if you see something going across the moon like in the very first game. There's one for encountering classic Jade as well, which you have to get a double flawless on Shang Tsung and do a fatality on him in the arcade ladder for it to work, which I still haven't been able to do yet either. Felt like a wild goose chase when I waited for Smoke to come out in the haunted forest for at least a few matches, so I gave up on that for the time being..

Guess I'll be going back to the challenge tower. Ah, how I love MK games with so much stuff to do in them. ~

Holy god! How do I defeat Shao Kahn with Raiden in story mode? I tried 20 times last night, literally, then I gave up and went to bed.

Barrel Roll, duh.

He blocks it! I'm teleporting like mad and then unleashing a brutal chain of combo attacks, but he always cheap shots me and then does his x-ray finish.

I feel ya man Shao Khan is an animal in this game.

And his X-Ray is almost an insta-kill.

Other people better than me at this game may have better strategies then me, but for me what I found to work best is patience. There are times where he is invulnerable. So I just timed all his attacks to teleport behind him mid-attack then hit him with a power attack of my own. Rinse and repeat.

here is the cheapest way, when facing him do the teleport move with raiden you will apear behind him and then uppercut him .. continue to do the same thing until the end its a 100% victory, many people dont have the patiance and they try to do combos on him so dont just teleport uppercut teleport uppercut its 100%

and sorry but i just have to ask does the PSN works for you? i cant log on for 2 days already someone told me they are making some changes

My PSN works fine.

As far as the tips go, I'll try them out. More than one person has told me to have infinite patience with Shao Kahn.
