Mortal Kombat 9

My bro had to lock this game in his closet, true story, cuz since this game has been out, his Xbox has not been off more than an hour or 2. Some one is always tryin' to play it. There is just mountain of shit to do, it's pretty addictive. From a casual perspective, this is literally the ultimate fighter...and it's 2D!🙂

They disappoint me tho, by following the lame ass trend of comeback mechanics. Blazblue is literally the only "mainstream" fighter without'em, this gen. Very sad.

I like the comeback mechanics of this game, personally. At least it's not game-breaking like it was in MKvsDC. Even if you manage to land an x-ray, it doesn't guarantee a win or anything like the RAGE in MKvsDC pretty much did..

Also, related to a previous question, what was one character that this game made you like more than you ever have before? (pertaining to the story I guess) For me it was definitely Smoke. This was like the first time they really fleshed him out and where you got to see his personality, so to speak. Really liked his voice too. Still think his hairdo is unsettling though, which is why I use his alternate costume instead. That said, I'm glad he actually didn't become a cyborg in this timeline, and although I didn't like that Sub-zero took his former role, he made up for it by

Spoiler:
beating both Goro and Kintaro at once and kicking his older brother's ass
, which made me like Cyber Sub a little more.

And sorry to hear about the PSN thing... Just how suspectable is it to hacking? 😑

I have no idea, but I want my PSN account running, dammit! The fighting game of the year is in my PS3, it's my weekend, I'm home alone, and I can't fight online.

I don't like comeback mechanics. My philosophy has always been, don't get your ass kicked.

Way I see it, it gives those who aren't as experienced more of a chance, and is a fair enough system depending on how it's done, like in MK9. I get where you're coming from though. Pity that Blazblue's the only game this gen that doesn't have it.

I hate challenge #251 (defeat Baraka, Sindel, and Kahn as Shang Tsung). Tsung's x-ray does only like 15% damage against Kahn here, which is dumb. If only Tsung still had the teleport and slide moves that he had in MKvsDC (which would make it easier to dodge Kahn's hammer throw), or if you could at least temporarily take Kahn's form with the soul steal. That would be nice... Not much to do with him now other than fireball spam or do a combo here and there. At least, with the challenge I'm on.

I don't mind the comeback mechanics. X-Ray moves are akin to Supers anyway, though they are stupidly powerful.

What I don't like are the huge-ass damaging combos that exist in the game. Granted, landing them would be difficult in a match against a competent player, but still.

As for who is/are my favourite(s) to play with: Cage & Kitana for now. I'm liking Sonya as well for some reason. Guess it's her Arc Kick.

Agree on both the comeback mechanics (even though if you're winning, an x-ray can put some real distance between you and your oppponent, so it goes both ways imo) and the Smoke part; he's become a character that i actually cared about.

I haven't tried everyone though...

Eh well, when ya get to the challenges past 200 on the challenge tower, they're not something stupidly powerful. They're a necessity, a life-saver (even if they're at times not as powerful as they usually are).

I love Kitana's down-forward high punch (I think?) special move. Not the fan throw, but where she attacks swiftly while holding the fans. And yeah, Sonya's all right too, at least more-so than she was in MKvsDC, and hotter as well. You'll get better with her too by doing challenge #248 in the tower, which is basically one long endurance match as Sonya.

👆

Neither have I, but from what I've seen so far, Noob Saibot's probably the cheapest/spammiest character in the game, especially thanks to the shadow charge...

Well now I'm on challenge #269, where have you have to defeat 3 Shao Kahns as Stryker, with no health recharges in between (I guess this is the point where you get no more handicaps of any kind). Wish me luck people? awesome

break a leg or two!

Think I overestimated the 3 Kahn challenge. The one where you have to beat 3 Goros as Ermac (#275) is where it's really at. Heard it's like the hardest challenge too besides the 300th one before I got this far, and with the whole "bosses occasionally not flinching to your attacks" thing, I can see why. So you can't just rape him with Ermac's telekinesis like you could Kahn when it came to Stryker's gun..

Guess I'll skip that one for now so I can at least get other challenges after it done before I go to bed again.

mmm On 2nd thought, I'm gonna try and go by this guy's strategy. Would suggest that anyone who tries this challenge should probably do the same.

YouTube video

edit: I did it! Wow, it was easy when you do it that way. Just gotta keep your cool and be patient with it. The last Goro I finished off with an x-ray right when it really started to damage me.

Just finished the story mode. Wow. I did not expect it to be that good.

Cage is f*cking awesome, I really like Smoke and props to whoever voices him. Shame so many had to die but I like the tragedy of it. I was pissed when Sub Zero went all Cyborg but they made it up.

My biggest problem is that the story mode wasn't big on power level consistency. A nitpick but still. Sindel f*cked their shit up.

I was worried because I heard Sub Zero was shit in hand to hand combat but he still kicks ass. Sub Zero, Liu Kang, Cage, Smoke and Scorpion are my favorites. I just rape opponents with them.

The biggest disappointment for me is the lack of Kenshin. One of my favorites.

The AI in this game is easy to beat even in the Tower. You just have to let the kill you 6-7 times and choose retry every time the AI gets dumber. Do not press start and continue from there.

Yeah, I was thankful that Cyber Sub-zero at least regained his will thanks to a little help, and thus wasn't a puppet of the Lin Kuei for long like the other cyborgs. As for those all who died, I don't think we'll have seen the last of them somehow. A lot of people just don't seem to stay dead in MK for very long.

And Kenshi's gonna be DLC.

If that's true, then I guess I may have to lose a lot more than I've been losing for the AI to become dumb enough for me to beat them in challenge 300 of the tower, which is the one I'm at now 😬 (where you have to fight Goro, Kintaro, Mileena, and Shao Khan one after the other or somethin' like that). I noticed the AI still never seems to fall for things like Sub-zero's ice clone though, making it pretty useless you're playing against human opponents.

I'm currently trying to master Stryker and Cyrax. If I can just get the hang of remembering tag combos, this duo would be unstoppable! Stryker's long range gun shot and grenades with Cyrax's net and bombs really tears shit up.

Ah, good thinking. I reckon Sheeva's unblockable stomp move & nearly unavoidable x-ray combined with Noob Saibot's fast and spammy shadow moves could also ruin someone's day mmm, not that I plan on using them as a duo except for beating the ladder arcade on expert without losing so I can get that trophy/achievement. 😛

Am I the only one who thinks that Noob Saibot and Kratos are a little bit too powerful?

Welcome to the 2000s. Ultras, X Factors, and now X-Rays. The rewards for making bad decisions.

Still, I like this game and I'm fixing to purchase this title later today. I've never been an MK, believe it or not. But I played this at Gamestop the other day and had a blast.
