The Force Unleashed II

How come?

Because lightning coming out of your fingertips is iconic, and it is dark, and any attempted rationalization of it to make a variant of it for light side users is just...weak.

Like, I believe the first time I came across it, Jacen using it on the Vong during the Ebaq 9 battle (did anyone else lol at Ackbar setting a trap?) and I just...died a little bit.

See, I don't really have a problem with light siders being able to utilize some emotions/feelings/powers that might not be 'light side approved' per se (Mace did it, Plo did it, Luke did it, etc.) I do, however, completely disagree with the number of characters who have whimsically come back to the light after fully embracing the dark side. As was said earlier, that defeats the whole concept behind "the dark side".

Marek's redemption was poorly portrayed. In the game he goes from Sith to "Jedi" in like *snaps* that, and no one seems to really care about the hundreds of rebels or several Jedi he killed.

Least Revan took a while.

Well he really wasn't a true Sith, he wasn't even a real apprentice. More like a Dark Jedi, who turned to the light after he saw his father's manifestation on Kashyyk.

Since they could use every Force user they could get, I doubt it was a big deal to the rebels.

Rationalization. The man was trained from childhood by Vader, he knew of little else beyond the Dark Side. And he changed so friggin fast.

Too fast. I hate when that happens. It's such a weak ploy. Vader's was meaningful, but Marek's was... not.

At least Vader had known a life before the Dark Side, he knew what he was missing. Took a direct confrontation with his son to spark a year's worth of conflict in him. And then another confrontation. And then witness to his son's torture and possible death.

All it took for a Marek was a buxom blonde with high cheek bones.

I'd go lightside for a buxom blonde with high cheek bones.

Minus the bitchy british accent.

Hey, one of the primary reasons little Ani fell was to save his brunette chica with the nice abdominal section.

Nah, the british accent is cute, as long as their teeth aren't effed up.

love the british accent. I have known a few british people, and they have all had messed up teeth. Is that a genetic trait/stereotype i haven't heard about before?

I know a hot British chick with excellent teeth. She's got issues though.

I believe it is because of the poor dental insurance coverage in the U.K.? If folks didn't go to the dentist regularly in the U.S. or got braces, they would have messed up teeth as well.

And what the hell was up with that Sith's saber skills? Hopping around everywhere, taking big looping swings that're easily ducked and dodged. Dude kinda sucked. We might have a Dark Side candidate for Johun Othone.

Johun Othone did not suck. He was cool.

True, his fighting skills were somewhat lacking, but that's why I like him. Because he's an everyman Jedi. It's refreshing to have a protagonist who isn't "one of the greatest duellists in the Order."

TFU became stupid as soon as there was the idea that someone who has spent the majority of his life as a sith, can just turn his back on the dark side.

That was what made TFU (and Galen himself) awesome!

He became good because he fell in love. Love saves us from evil.

Anakin's love turned him evil. 😕

No, Anakin's obsession turned him evil. Big difference.

A healthy non-obsessed relationship is a good thing.

You sound like Obi-Wan.

Thanks.

I don't know what game you played but Galen's turn was a deeply personal and slow thing that happened over the course of a year (IIRC) and with quite a few factors pushing him towards it. There were a few things wrong with the game but his redemption wasn't one of them.

I disagree. It was a gradual process that inched forward over the course of the most overwhelmingly unique year of his life. Keeping in mind that he'd been kidnapped at around five from his late father and a tribe of Wookies and spent the next sixteen years of his life in secret with Vader and a droid that apparently spent its time plotting or attempting his murder, Marek probably hadn't ever had any meaningful social interaction until he was assigned Juno. It was a brand new experience for him, and his subsequent travels took him to places and people who could offer him even more. Few, if any, comparable characters are raised in such universal isolation. Even then it took a lightsaber through the gut, a little alone time in vacuum, resurrection, and a few more months of running around with the Rebellion for him to actually turn on his master.

I also don't think he was ever nearly as dark as many of his peers. Vader was certainly a brutal, twisted mentor, but I doubt he'd taken the time to psychologically torture or deeply indoctrinate Marek the way Palpatine did his students. Was the boy traumatized? Sure. But I think it takes a guiding hand to turn trauma into evil, and Vader never bothered with that.

Now I don't like that the character exists, but his redemption isn't very hard to believe.
