STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Respite

Precisely.

Well, easy enough for Vera-Kin. Once we're ready to go back down, Vera-Kin will explain to Navir and Barker that they are going to accompany her when she goes to talk to Wazo Kell about an alliance.

"If this turns out just as the Maltites did," Vera-Kin says, "then I will need support from you two."

Hmm. Can the astromechs plot a good spot for Xeth to hide the ship and make it on foot to Tarne's base?

R3 and G8 can find a suitable landing point for the Nexu's Grin, just outside of Tarne's very limited sensor range.

"I'm good to go," Navir responds to Vera. Barker growls in agreement.

I bring my lightsaber and blaster. I think I took 2 light blasters originally. I'll use the other one so that it doesn't short out.

Xeth goes in fully armed as usual. Sonic blaster, pike, and lightsaber.

"Good luck guys," I say to Navir and Vera. "Auuuuuuugggffgtt AAoooggHTTTTHHHH!!!" I say to Barker, aware that I said nothing intelligible. I wink at him so as not to confuse the joke.

Barker growls irritably his goodbye.

Vera-Kin and her bodyguards are delivered to the coastal region shortly after Xeth flies back into Respite's atmosphere. The buildings nearer the coast are squatter with the exception of a few towers, looking to have once been resorts and hotels.

It is one of these that Wazo Kell has fortified, right up against the beach. You have been dropped off a short distance away.

-

Xeth and Ti, on the other hand, are flying deeper into the city. As with the area you found the Maltites, the city is crowded with decaying buildings. Some of them have even been destroyed, though long ago from the looks of it.

The base of operations that Tarne hides in is very obvious. In the center of the city, the buildings immediately around the base have been cleared away via demolition in order to create a dangerous debris field around it, and to prevent all manner of attack from adjacent towers. The base itself is very low and walls of scrap metal have been erected to fortify the place.

You are going to land a short distance awhile, just outside of sensor range. You can choose to land wherever you like.

R3 and G8 say they are picking up small signals on their limited scans.

We should land away from the signals. Maybe it's less fortified on one of the sides.

Xeth wants to know what the small signals are and asks R3 if he can figure that out for him.

Otherwise, Xeth will try to land somewhere where he can conceal the ship, probably in the ruins of a destroyed building where nobody will go looking for it.

"We do this as quietly as possible," Xeth says to Ti. "We don't want to start any fights or alert them to our presence. We just need to see what we're up against."

Vera-Kin has no reason to be sneaking around and will directly approach the place that she has sussed to be the base of operations for Wazo Kell and his ilk.

"Stay behind me," Vera-Kin says, "and watch out for any trouble."

She keeps her senses open as she advances on the fortified resort.

The droids make sure to steer you clear of the signals, but they can certainly tell you that they are battle droids on patrol. Unlike Malteen, Tarne's signal is simply the battle droid control signal.

-

You sense life in this area, Vera-Kin. Much of the planet is rather more dead. You really do wonder what happened here to make it so desolate.

Could Vera-Kin make educated guesses about why Respite is in this state, based on how the environment and buildings are?

In any case, Vera-Kin will advance on the resort until she can sense people watching her.

2 Intrusion, 4 Agi.

I look for sneaky entrances to the compound. If there's a definable chance of being caught, we double back and try a different route until we find a suitably obscure entrance.

First you'll have to get to the compound itself! This part is easier due to R3 and G8 being able to plot a route past the patrols for you, but it is still going to be an Intrusion check to see if you even make it to the walls.

-

Guess away!

Sure enough, Vera-Kin is confronted by about ten men with blaster rifles. Barker and Navir draw their guns in response, the former growling viciously.

Both Xeth and I have Intrusion, hopefully it's not bad.

We listen to the droids and head where they lead us.

Since Ti can Bodyguard me, Xeth will have his sonic blaster out and ready to fire just in case sneaking into the fortress does not go as planned. CC ES BGu

With the droids guiding you around the patrols, you only need a success to get past them and on the approach to the fortress. Xeth rolls two, Ti rolls three! You sneak through the shredded metal wasteland surrounding the fortress, dodging patrols or hiding when they come too close.

The patrols consist mainly of armored battle droids, supplemented by scruffy men in ragged red uniforms.

You are both bothered by the uniforms. They seem familiar.

We haven't done anything together until this campaign, how would they be familiar to us both? I will think on this.

How far do those successes take us? It's probably time to form a plan.

Bodyguard (Xeth), Block, Focused Guard...will play defensive while we sneak.

You recognize them from somewhere.

You are in position to try sneaking into the fortress itself. You need to figure out a way to bypass the wall, which is composed of large sheets of scrap metal that have been layered to form a thick metal barrier, high enough that you couldn't just leap over it in a single bound. It is also covered in sharp things.
