Have been reading up on some strats. Amusing that I've watched way more multiplayer video than I've actually played at this point. But I dislike being a straight noob.

TheSquiiddish on youtube is one of the better strategy video guys. He, TheShenmue36, and rainiethg are "Team 2012," a group of high-tier players with fun commentary and very useful strategy. Most of my current profile builds are due to how they play.

I have actually never watched a single video.

Hmm, is this game any fun?

Thanks, I'll be sure to look him up. I was watching vids of a guy called Wingspantt, who apparently runs a website called Top Tier Tactics. He was funny, and the videos ranged from seeming like they were pro to kinda middle of the road. But he presented as both good and bad, and explained both. And I'm a noob and it was amusing, so I was able to glean some good info from it.

I'm abnormally patient when it comes to video games though (I blame the Thief series). I'm excited for this because of that, but also worried I may enjoy not dying so much that I won't get enough kills.

For those on 360 my GT is MattAtom (unsuprisingly)

If you really want to laugh, I recommend Squiiddish's videos where the Prowler and the Noble teach how to play like a pro.

Just be sure to play the exact opposite of that 😛

I have no time, pretty much ever, and I'm always pissed because I'm not playing this game. I got a taste and want more. Rest assured I will be on at some point.

Maybe.

I hope.

🙁

Friggin' love this game. After leveling to maybe level 8 at about 2AM last night, I'm hooked.

I enjoy Manhunt but not Alliance. Specifically, I like being the hunted on Manhunt. Pretty much without fail, I'm the highest scoring on my team on defense, then lowest when we're the attackers. I don't have the knack for hunting someone down yet, though a lot of my points even in Wanted are from eluding, tricking, or stunning my pursuers.

Wanted is fun. I've started adopting a more defensive way of playing once I'm in the lead. I'm very hit or miss with Mute (I only time it right about 10% of the time), but smoke bombs are awesome. And I love Blender.

Also, sometimes I don't know what the heck the matchmaking system is doing 😂 I had this match earlier (I was playing as the Noble...meant to pick the Courtesan but scrolled past her on accident. Whoops). On Siena, which is my favorite map. I kinda felt bad for my opponents 😛

Lol, awesome match. And I want Blender so bad.

As soon as I hit about 11, I started seeing entire matches with people in the 20's/30's. It hasn't been easy.

Also, Wanted has this habit of not giving me a new target, sometimes for minutes on end. My best match ever so far came out of this, where I went about half the match without a contract, and still managed to finish 3rd. Still, it's kinda frustrating when I can only get points from eluding my attackers. I feel like it's good practice, it's just not good for leveling. Has been wreaking havoc on my kill/death ratio too.

And while I'm thinking about it...is there a way to just roam around on the maps without being in a match? I feel like if I could actually map out the terrain in my mind without constantly having to worry about stuff, I'd be much better.

I'm also having trouble with recognition of a few personas. Like, when I'm chasing 2-3 persona-types, my reflexes are hindered mightily while I identify them. I try to always play as one to make it less likely, but it happens more than I'd like.

I suggest you enter a normal game and let yourself be killed a couple of times, that will put you down on 8th place, and as long as you don't get any more points, you will have no more pursuers on you. Giving you the remaining time to roam the map and get the feel of the layout, you can also use this time to study NPC and player behaviour.

Ah, good idea, thank you. I picked up on the no pursuer thing when you're 8th, but hadn't thought to use it as a training tool.

And a "normal" game is just a "Player Match," right? As opposed to a ranked match? I'm not too concerned with stats yet, I just hit the Play button and go where it takes me (except to Alliance games, which still scare me), but I should probably know the distinction.

Sorry for the noob questions though, and thanks again. I'm always happy to admit ignorance, because it's closer to knowing what the hell I'm doing.

You can still get a pursuer in 8th place, it just doesn't happen often.

And yes, just a regular player match. I've been trying ranked matches lately, for the whole templar grade thing, but I'll be honest, I find ranked matches a lot less fun.

And yeah, Digi, sometimes it gets annoying when it puts you against people a much higher level than you. I had a hard time when I was levels 26-27 because everyone else would be over level 30 and they'd all be spamming poison constantly, so 1) I couldn't get kills and 2) when I died, they'd get a lot more points than they normally would have.

Honestly, though, the best ability in the game is the smoke bomb. Learn the timing on that to stun your pursuers and you're golden.

Yup, getting poisoned when Disguise is like my most relevant ability kinda sucks. But I'll practice with the Smoke Bomb, thanks.

I need to create some Player matches tonight. I'm just going to be finishing last a lot and working on strategy. Will kill my stats, but who cares. The goal, I suppose, is level 50, so I have to take the long view.

Speaking of smoke bombs, what does your class for Wanted look like?

I've settled in a Poison (slow) and Smoke Bomb (long lasting) combo, with Blender and one other perk I can't remember now (probably less risk of being detected when running towards your target).

Also loss streak 2x is superb, doing a hidden, focused slow poison kill can easily net you 1500+ points for one kill, add in Poacher, Revenge, and a Variety and you are on a roll.

Loss Streak x2 is nice, but I don't generally use it just because I rarely have 5 lost contracts in a row. I prefer Reset Cooldowns.

Squiidish was pretty f-ing hilarious. The wingspantt ones I watched were framed a bit more like actual tutorials and helpful hints, but Squiidish worked in enough specific strategy to make his vids worthwhile as well.

I like the idea of Morph better than Mute, but apparently Mute gets used more. Seems like everyone uses smoke bombs though, aside from very offensive builds.

I prefer Morph, though I find I don't use either that often - Morph becomes less useful once you have Blender and even if it hides you, it makes your group stand out like a sore thumb. And when it comes to Mute I'm just not very good at the timing on it yet.

Smoke bombs are basically everyone's staple for defense.

I've been playing around with a Decoy+Poison profile, because I think it could be entertaining, but I have a hard time finding situations where Decoy is useful, since most of my deaths come from people getting aerial kills (I can generally tell when someone's walking at me from on the ground).

Morph seemed really great when I first encountered it, but by experimenting with the detection radar it is very easy to find which one in a morphed group is the actual player (simply go behind something so you can't see the morphed group, then edged forward, revealing one member of the group at a time, the moment the radar lights up, you know who your target is).
