She's not simply trying to destroy the world, in her mind, she's trying to better it. I liken Kuvira more to Zaheer than Unalaq.
In fact, I'd argue that out of the four main antagonists she's the least complicated and least sympathetic. Every chance she's been given to show some depth she's squandered by doubling down on the villainy.
I didn't say she was on the same level as Zaheer, but if it's a sliding scale, Kuvira lands closer to Zaheer than she does Unalaq.
Also, i don't actually like Kuvira. At all. I can't wait to see her get beaten down.
Originally posted by Omega Visiongonna disagree with that. No way she's less sympathetic or complicated than Unalaq or Amon; the former was evil for the sake of being the villain, the latter had big time daddy issues whose motivations for his actions turned out to be complete bullshit.

Kuvira doubling down on the villainy at every turn makes me respect her determination and will. She's willing to be seen an utter monster to help the entire world, with the only catch being that you bow to her.
People are calling her an egomaniac... that's not true. She showed genuine love for bratty douche, and being willing to kill him shows that she's not as concerned about herself people are making her out to be. She's megalomaniacal and has a single-minded objective, but she's not a one-dimensional character. She's got Shrek layers.
Help the entire world? She's tried on multiple occasions to kill the Avatar. Even during a duel to defeat, not death. She got the Earth kingdom back on track but was much more ruthless than necessary and pretty much turned it into the fire nation under Ozai. Now she just wants Republic City because she wants it. Hell to display her power she uses the super weapon to try and kill Ju Lee and just started firing on the city to show off her new toy, not caring if she killed people during the display.
The only person she's trying to help is Kuvira.
nope. she's clearly trying to making the world a better place through force. How does killing the avatar at this point hurt the world? The spirits are already wild and ignoring Korra.
she's meaner than she needs to be... that's your argument against her? Weigh that against taking everyone out of destitution.
Things being destroyed is more the fault of the people getting her in way. If these people weren't opposing her tyranny, all the destruction would have been on a much smaller scale.
^ What happened to just getting the Earth Kingdom back on track. Why does Kuvira feel the need to make the world a better place when it really didn't need her help at all after the whole "Harmonic Convergence" deal. And how are the spirits wild? In the 3 years Korra was absent, they didn't do anything and Republic City became better than ever after learning how to live with them.
Also why does Kuvira feel the need to have "camps"?
Originally posted by Omega VisionI think you need to watch book 2 again, because I have no idea how you could think she's less complicated and sympathetic than Unalaq. For Kuvira sacrificing someone close to her was at least a hard decision that she didn't make lightly. Unalaq? "STOP SAVING YOUR BROTHER'S LIFE AND HELP ME BECOME SATAN ESKA!"

Also, marwash's point about the avatar is valid. Killing Korra carries no more emotional weight to her than killing mooks, and why should it? Killing Korra would actually be rather pragmatic. Keep in mind that she basically owns the entire Earth Kingdom. Where will the next avatar be born? Oh, yeah...
I would say she is less sympathetic and complex than Amon and especially Zaheer, however. Amon didn't even want to ****ing kill anyone, IIRC, and actively strove to make everyone equal. Kuvira has a body count that must be in the hundreds by now, and is sending non-Earth Kingdom people to ****ing concentration camps, lol.

The finale was cool and stuff. Prince Wu becoming competent was actually pretty darn amazing at the end and as for Kuvira's defeat....I find her motivation pretty lacking almost as bad as Amon's during his reveal.
Oh and
Spoiler:. Punks 😛
I guess KorraxAsami is canon. They just couldn't have a kiss scene could they
I knew
Spoiler:
they'd been building up to and teasing KorraSami. Asami being the only one she talked to while she was away, or always feeling good around her, etc... But I never knew they'd actually get it going for real at the end. They might as well have been bumping uglies by how quickly they forgot about everybody else just so they could get freaky in the spirit world. Maybe Iroh gets to watch.
