And his brother happens to be five times as cool.

Also better looking but that is neither here nor there.

He has time to be cool cuz he's not busting his ass supporting his bro like Mako is.

Man...I was gonna go get quotes and shit to prove Mako is an ass but it's too much hassle....so do it yourself Neph. 😛

And yah, Bolin is cooler than Mako. I don't like his design though really. And I thought he was Mako's brother?

Oh right, I forgot I have to prove my opponents case now. Doi!

I might be wrong there. I thought Mako said so in ep 3.

it's pretty obvious that Mako IS a douche, just don't know why AA is so mad about it.

and Mako is older.

Because he is named after a dead guy and it makes me feel bad. He should be better. 😮

Ok, what about Bolin? The dudes not even his real brother but he worked and still works his ass off looking after him. Thats pretty cool imo.

It's a cartoon drawn with Japanese animation techniques. Close enough. Don't try to play semantics with me boy. uhuh

I thought he was his real brother? Just came from a firebending/earthbending parental combo that lived around Republic City which used to be a firebending occupied earthbending territory.

So...you guys have favorites yet? At least, any temporary ones. 😮

Korra and Amon so far.

^ same.

I like Bolin too.

He's been a consistent douche so far you mean. He was a complete dick to Korra before finding out she was the Avatar(i.e someone more important than him), is a hypocritical douche about Bolin getting in trouble with the Triple Triads, even though he fully admitted that he used to run with them when times were hard(and times are hard for the Fire Ferrets as a whole), he was brutally mean to Hasook, completely unwilling to let Korra join his at the cost of his dream out of stupid pride, and he is just a dick to everyone. He was one hair away from *****ing Asami out for hitting him(even though it was partially, if not fully his fault) before finding out she was bonerific. The only time he has seemed like a nice person is when someone is being useful to him, like treating him to a hot date or sponsoring his team or getting his team a place in the tournament.

He's a dick and I dun like him.

He's worse than Sasuke. Well, not now since Sasuke has gone all looney tooney on us(and gone back?) but other than that at least Sasuke would just ignore you instead of being a dick. Hell, Part 1 Sasuke was very likable compared to Mako.

Hate leads to the Dark Side.

With that said, I don't think Mako is on Sasuke level of angst or general social ineptitude. He's a bit rough around the edges, but I don't get the reasoning for all the hate. You seem to be blowing things out of proportion - he ran with the Triad when times were tough but they put that behind them to do Pro-Bending so they wouldn't have to be criminals again, he was being honest to Hasook who was a complete jack-ass that sucked as a Pro-Bender (he honestly did more harm than good), didn't want Korra to join because he didn't know her well enough to know if she would be an asset to his team, and was rightly frustrated when he got hit on the road.

On the other hand, Sasuke will leave his best friend for dead. I do like Sasuke, but lets not pretend he isn't a huge jackass.

I really don't think I am. The thing with the triads wasn't bad because he used to run with them. It was bad because he was being unfairly harsh to Bolin while being blind to how similar a position he had been. He called Hasook useless dude. If I was Hasook, I'd have quit too. And him not wanting Korra to join was stupid because it's like denying Superman the chance to join your football team. Keep in mind, you didn't really address him being an ass to Korra and then calling himself an idiot when he found out that she was the Avatar. To me, this shows he is willing to insult people, unless they happen to be famous/important. As for the moped thing, speaking from the point of view of someone who has been in situation similar, the dumbass pedestrian has no right to start chewing them out.

Sasuke on the other hand is a far superior character, but hey Naruto has been around a while so more time, whereas Mako has 3 episodes to his name. However, Sasuke becoming more unlikable actually makes sense. Sasuke has gradually become a villain so obviously he is going to be doing some bad things. It's the Hero's Great Fall if you will. Mako is supposed to make me like him and that's actually funny.

However, even ignoring the fact that Sasuke has been around far longer, he is still far more likable in the first few episodes. He's rough around the edges in a more true sense in that he doesn't want to work with anyone(he has been alone for a while you know) and ultimately gets chastised for it. And what does he do? He starts being nicer. Mako was only nice to Korra because she saved his ass. Sasuke seemed to become nicer because he started understanding the importance of teamwork and his teammates. He would then save both Sakura and Naruto in his first mission. He is growing.

Mako is just an ass. He didn't want Korra on his team and when Korra did save his teams chances, he was nicer to her. But the next episode he goes back to his emo bull and when she joined the task force, he seemed more annoyed at her missing practice than being in danger. He is nice...if you do something for him. And I don't like that trait for this type of character.

He didn't want Korra to join because he didn't know how good at Probending she was or if she knew the rules. Which we saw was justified as she almost cost them the match through inexperience. I wouldn't want Superman on my football team either if he didn't know how to play and couldn't use his powers.

He called him out precisely because he had been in that situation before. He went and found honest work to be able to pay for things and expected his brother to do the same and if not then at least stay out of trouble. You don't go back to a life of crime after getting out and not have people call you on it.

He called Hasook useless dude. If I was Hasook, I'd have quit too.

He was useless. 😬

He was coming from the assumption that she was just another fangirl of Bolin's. If I was in the same situation and my brother kept bringing in random fangirls that just gushed over him 24/7, I'd be pretty annoyed too. His reaction was, if not justified, at least expected for a more serious type of personality.

I still think you are blowing his actions way out of proportion. Is he supposed to be the dick of the show? Yes. But is he completely an ass who can't be liked by the audience? No, I disagree.

"Superman, when I give you the ball just run straight."

"Korra, don't knock people off the side."

shrug

That was really the only rule she broke. And keep in mind, this was his last shot. He was at the end of the line. It was either let Korra join or give up. Mako showed that he would rather quit then be embarrassed. Not very likable.

And it's hard for Bolin to accept the fact that his brother is trying to shoulder so much and wants to help. The point is, Mako was insensitive to his brothers position despite it being one he himself had been in once before. That was what is unlikable about it.

And he was also the best they had. Mako insulted Hasook, Hasook told him to piss off and quit. If I was Hasook, I'd have done the same thing.

Then be polite about it. Mako wouldn't shake her hand, was very obvious about wanting her to gtfo, and clearly didn't have much in the way of an opinion on her before finding out she was the Avatar. He assumed too much while being rude at the same time. Unlikable.

He's an ass to me but that is subjective. I'm not going to like Mako until he changes attitude, which will hopefully eventually happen. As it stands now though? I can barely stomach him. The only time I was close to liking him was when he wanted to meet Hiroshi, which seemed to me that Mako showed an interest in business, which would actually kinda be a unique trait for this type of character. Now I'm not really sure why he met with Hiroshi at all except to say that he did.

Its not just about the rules (since shes a fangirl of probending it doesn't really make sense that she doesn't know the rules imo), but about inexperience. Probending uses a very specific style of bending that Korra doesn't use and he'd seen the previous night that she didn't. Because of this she spent the match getting her ass kicked until her epiphany.

I see the last part as logical. If they have to forfeit they can always come back again next year/whenever, but if they lose and get humiliated in the ring I figure their careers as probenders is pretty shaky.

It doesn't. But then again, I suppose knocking people off the side was a rule most didn't break. And so what? He needed her. No option other than quitting. And for a guy that has been complaining about having to start over again next year, it doesn't make sense for him to quit. Besides, she IS the Avatar. She should know more about bending than any one in the ring from a logical perspective.

Here's the problem: If losing the match and starting over really isn't such a big deal to Mako, why should I care? If he is willing to let his hardwork go down the toilet just for fear of humiliation, I have no qualms about him having hard times at all. He's choosing to have them.

To bring Naruto up again, Team 7 didn't want to go back to the academy because they chose to be ninja and they had invested a lot of time into the training. And for that, plus some character development, they were willing to do anything to stay ninja.

when you don't like someone, even the way they breathe will annoy you.
