Earth Sense isn't Metalbending, but yeah, Earth Sense means she can see Earth Impurities and bend them.

Also, they should call it Earth Impurity bending. Platinum is a metal, and it cannot be bent. stoned

Lol, it was a joke because Dadudemon wasn't convinced that the police were using metal bending for their whips. So I said probably didn't believe Lin could earthbend/earth sense either.

So how do these characters rank up to the old ones? Particularly Amon, Korra, Tenzin, Lin? Include Mako, Bolin, Asami, and Electro-Staff guy if you want.

none of them are close to the EoS versions of the originals. we don't have quite enough showings yet.

Well I didn't just mean the former Team Avatar. Just the former characters as a whole.

Korra guys just havn't really showed as much crazy over the top stuff as Airbender guys. Even Amon hasn't been seen obliterating dozens of benders single handedly like Ty Lee has.

Korra is still Season 1 of Airbender levels. Which is fine. I really like the smaller scale fights.

So as of this episode, something has been bothering me: What are Bolin and Mako still doing here?

I mean, their goal has basically been taken from them, they don't have any real personal beef with Amon, and aside from being Korra's(and Asami's) friends, I don't see why they're around. I mean...they suck at fighting. And unlike the case with Katara and Sokka, they don't serve the purpose of helping Korra adjust to the world or anything like that. Why are they still here, aside from being a pathetic love interest and comic relief? They've lost most of their purpose in the story.

I honestly don't know. They've been quite clever so far in pushing them into the story when they're not really that connected, but I don't know how they'll keep that up. I guess the plot and fights will focus more on Lin, Korra and Tenzin. Its kind of odd to have two of the main characters be that old in a kids show though.

But I suppose being Probenders they do have motivation to want to help fight Amon.

Korra just doesn't really have a team dynamic like the old show did.

Indeed. I knew why Katara and Sokka were there in the original and it eventually became obvious how they would contribute. Same for Zuko and Toph.

Mako and Bolin...just serve no purpose. They could be emotional support I guess but Tenzin has been that so far(and doing a damn good job of it).

I have a feeling something will happen to make the Fire Ferrets more relevant but I dunno how well it will work. I'd honestly just rather see Amon and Lin being badass.

Maybe thats why he wouldn't take Korra's bending away because then he'd be kinda spiritually killing his own father.

Also:

Okay, I see that they are definitely metal benders, now. However, I was right about heir cable things on their back being spring loaded to return them. The "brakes" were smoking when they fought the mechs in the episode.

But, the most hilarious part of this episode was when Bolin did a belly flop on the Police Officer that Mako "Fire-Sneezed" over. That needs to be a gif, nao.
