hmm I never went pure mage in oblivion
I had a stealth/onehandswords/archer/illusionmagic. Illusion magic is amazing in oblivion and I'm hoping it's all still there in Skyrim.

Nothing like casting Fireball ten times, only for nothing to happen, huh?

I honestly hated Morrowind's magic system. Levitate was by far the most worthwhile spell, along with Conjuration in general for the lulz of being a literal one man army.

Though really combat in general totally sucked in Morrowind.

I actually found it very logical that you simply isn't capable of casting every spell from the beginning, but again that is just me.

I kinda liked it, but again that is just me 🙂

Starting this game tonight.

There was this amazing glitch in morrowind that if you made a soul trap spell on self, and combined it with a fortification spell like athletics, you could run like the Flash. I used it with Fortify Acrobatics, and jumped all the way from Vivec to Solsteim lol. If anyone tries this, just make sure to have a feather spell set on an item of clothing or it's splat city ha ha. Morrowind was cool, I wish they had cloaks in Skyrim for the look factor. It would be so cool looking to have a cape or cloak on as you wore Dadric armor or any armor for that matter. They should mod this into the game.

Say goodbye to your life for the next 2-4 weeks.

Aw man, I'm starting this on Dec. 25th, think I may ring in the new year in Skyrim...

I'm playing as a pure mage.

I think I'm making a wrong decision.

Pure mage is perfectly fine, not sure how people are having problems. If anything playing as a pure warrior is harder for me, yes you can take a few hits but because your up close and personal if things start going wrong you cant juse leg it or such, chances are youl get an arrow in your back. especially early game, I mean everyone is OP by the end of it.

As a Mage, I could defeat enemies like mammoths and giants with just a bit of kiteing at a level that I would be completly annhilated as a warrior, same with dragon priests. If I had to run up close or use a low damage bow or something I would have died on my first dragon priest, wheras given a fair amount of time, my low level lightning spells soon knocked his health down thanks to a bit of dodging and hiding.

I'm a sword and shield kinda player (love the deatha animations), switching to a fire spell in my left hand whenever the situation calls for it (trolls, undead, etc.) and I ran into that exact problem you mentioned with the dragon priests lol I ran up to a wall and a priest came out, and I died a few times against him without taking much of his health, so I ended up using some potions for resisting magic and used my full unrelenting force shout on him, which pushed him far enough out of the way, learned the words and got the heck outta there. 👆

So, now that I've said that...I don't like running away. What's the best course for killing those things?

I'm an archer who sneaks around and Sam Fisher'thems.

I also play the second lowest difficulty setting. I don't care. I'm not spending a hour trying to defeat a guy just because I went in the wrong dungeon. (in a 200 hour game)

Thank God for no difficulty achievements.

I'm playing it at hardest.
I always play games at the hardest level possible.

Well the way I did it, was to find a piece of wall to use as cover, which there is usually if I recall and shoot them with spells or arrows or a combo of both. It takes some timing, especially on the ones that use lightning because its really fast. What one did you come up against, do you recall the name? Eventually you get them down if your patient with the above method though and if for some reason they come racing out to meet you, just run and find a new area to hide.

I cant honestly say I know how to face them at lower level as a warrior, sword against their spells so to speak but then, I have not tried very hard.

Currently I play my lvl 60 mage high elf but I have got a level 13 Orc warrior (two handed swords and heavy armour, Dwarven currently) and so next, ill play a Kahjit or however you spell it, bows, sneakery and the like for him.

Good for you.

Difficulty isn't necessary for enjoyment. The dramatic and cinematic elements, or the depth, visuals, and gameplay should suffice. That said, I do find that I enjoy games more when there's a nice balance between challenge and frustration. I die in Skyrim. I have to reload certain tough fights and approach them more strategically, sometimes 3-4 times before I get past it. That's a good thing. I died twice in all of Wind Waker, for example, and once was on purpose...I remember that fact, and not in a good way.

I don't mind if you eventually become an unstoppable wrecking ball, killable only if you're stupid. But it shouldn't always be like that, nor should it always be intensely difficult. The mid-level difficulty is actually something I think they got exactly right, and is the one I play on.

I need to stop bombarding myself with quests before finishing others. I have no idea where to start now lol.

Tbh, even at a high level and with some pretty good gear I can still get myself into trouble if I dont play right whch as you said Digi is a good thing, having everything be a cakewalk is boreing so i think they got the mid and late game fairly decent. Early game seems fine too I guess although I think early game can be harder for some people depending on what your trying to do and your play style. A good challenge imo is hard to find in many of todays games.

Nah get enchanting to level 80-90 disenchant something that conjures destruction then enchant an armor (upper) ,necklace, ring, helmet with 25 % destruction and it will cost you no magicka.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I don't mind playing difficulty game if it makes sense. For instance, a war game, or a strategy game or a game that's not completely story related. If the difficulty of the game is designed within the scope of the game (for instance, Ninja Gaiden) then it's not an issue.

But.....if the story portrays you as a unstoppable beast, or the best person for the job, I find it ridiculous that you get killed by the weakest of enemy types.

As well, I'm a father and I love playing all types of games (currently playing Assassins Creed Revelations, Skyrim, BF3 and Forza 4) so I don't have time to put in 100 hours in a game and half of that redoing sections. That's why most RPG's I play I put it on the lowest difficult section.

Any Bioware game, I always put it on as Easy. I'm the best mother****ing killer on the planet, no thug is going to kill me.

(any shooter I play on Medium because I always feel developers use Medium as the intended way to play)
