The Avengers vs. The Dark Knight Rises (opening nite & wknd)

Ah. Fitting.

I'll be seeing this in a few days. I've heard great things in general.

TDKR just made a little above 30M for midnight showings. That's #2 of all time, behind that Twilight movie. I say around 190M, but the recent shooting can possibly lose some potential customers.

Imo, the shooting, as sad as it is, is some of the best publicity TDK could have hoped for.

Worst of the three movies.

Long, predictable, and in need of a substantial revisit to the editing room. It's odd that that the film franchise that everyone considers the "intellectual" and "cerebral" superhero film, has so little respect for the intelligence of the audience. Everything is spelled out for you like Nolan is holding your hand and guiding you through the scenes as though you are a child, explaining every detail of the film to you ad nauseum. There is no room for nuance, Nolan's story telling is about as subtle as a brick to the side of the face, as his foreshadowing is, akin to a neon sign, so glaring (and repetitive) that anyone - regardless of their familiarity with the Batman mythos - paying a modicum of attention should be able to see all the twists coming from ten miles out... that is if you don't fall a sleep in the middle of the movie, thanks to the middling pace.

That said, terrific performances all around, with Tom Hardy and JGL (and Michael Caine for his limited screen time), showcasing some standout acting abilities. Anne Hathaway delivers a serviceable yet unmemorable performance, and Cristian Bale does the same, content on being over shadowed by his foil for a third time in a row.

Good movie, with top notch sound editing and cinematography, like Prometheus the story is nothing special but it is probably worth seeing for the few stand out performances... although don't expect anything on the level of Fassbender's David. Just barely a full price IMO, but if you can see a matinee or cheap movie day showing, that would probably be preferable.

Also, saw the trailer for Superman: First Blood... pretty meh, and the effects of the sonic boom looked surprisingly mediocre especially for a Synder film.

Saw Avengers five times in theaters, I have no real desire to see TKDR again until I can pick up on BluRay... going to see if I can sell back the tickets I have for latter tonight.

Nah, it beat twilight. Harry Potter is the one that is ahead of it.

My bad. TDKR could break Potter's opening day of what? 91M

Disappointed in the film personally. Not saying it was a bad movie or anything, but it doesn't even touch TDK. And is my least favorite of the trilogy.

That being said the series is still the best superhero trilogy/series to date.

^ That's my view of the film.

I personally don't think the film is good enough to compete with Avengers. It has the hype (I already booked it twice before watching it) but I don't see word of mouth being overwhelming like it was for Avengers.

And unlike Avengers I think kids will get seriously bored watching this. They won't take their families to watch it a second time.

From all the twitter reaxtions most have been very positive. Wom wont be a problem. Its the recent event that will hurt it.

Yeah I pre-order tickets for two showings from the good initial word of mouth weeks in advanced. Mistake.

I shutter to think what the ****ing directors cut must look like, but I doubt it even exists because this movie watches like Nolan has no idea that he doesn't need to use every single piece of film that he shot. You could cut 45 minutes of the run time EASILY and end up with a more focused and enjoyable film... maybe even a full 60 minutes.

I honestly dont know what to expect tomorrow. Reactions have been all over the place. Even though most have been somewhat positive.

Yeah. Personally, I might see this in theaters maybe one more time, and that would be for a date because b1tches love Batman. 😛

I think some of the Nolanites refuse to see any flaws whatsoever in this movie while a lot of his critics will pan it just to pan it and/or troll the Nolanites. It was a good movie with great cinematography and score and the cast was well put together, but it's not as cohesive as Batman Begins, which honestly, still strikes me as the best film of the three.

Without spoiling it, how was the ending? Roepee among others said it was the best ending so far this year

Honestly, the final ten or so minutes felt really rushed and almost shoe-horned in. I was literally sitting there mouthing "WTF" at the conclusion for three characters specifically.

I think some people are confusing their elation to seeing the saga conclude to a great film series over judging this movie on its own steam. I really couldn't take one aspect in particular seriously, and I really tried to suspend my disbelief through the whole film.

Assuming you are talking about the same three character, and I'm fairly sure you are, then I feel it made sense. Each character's arc was building up to those moments.

I actually really liked the ending, personally, especially where Bruce and Alfred are concerned.

This is the ending trilogy? I was hoping for a 4th movie, where Batman adopts and brought in Dick and he himself decide to help Batman at the end.

Better than Begins. Not as good as TDK

TDKR has a better plot.
But I had more fun overall with the Avengers, and this is why I take him a little bit over TDKR.

But don't get me wrong, TDKR is crazy ****ing awesome too.
Honestly, I have a hard time to choose between The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. It's that good.

And Tom Hardy's Bane is, IMO, on par with Heath Ledger's Joker.

Yeah, no doubt. I go to Batman films to check out the plot though, glad they don't disappoint in the action with TDKR.

I actually thought the ending was the strongest part of the movie. Wrapped up the series perfectly in my opinion.
