Zan was a child when the dragons came and nations nuked themselves. There is nothing to suggest he had any sort of military training, especially high-end.

And a dodge. He was on the radio in the castle when his team lured the dragon, all he did was squeeze a trigger when Quinn lined up the dragon for him. Nothing about that scene says "high end military training" in regards to Van Zan.

Wait a moment. I just rewatched the fight. That wasn't even an ass whupping! Sure they broke up the fight, but Quinn wasn't even seriously injured! He was able to function perfectly and his face wasn't even that scarred. Hell, 3 people had to keep holding him back from again attacking Zan.
