And what proof do you have that Van Zan would die with that kind of injury? We never see him fall like that, so we don't really know what he's capable of tanking.

He's a normal human by all appearances/feats, so that's what you go with unless otherwise shown he's greater. A normal human would be seriously injured from a four story fall (if it was four) in most accounts.
Well, he did show a small measure of leaping ability while committing suicide.

Or Die Hard 2 where at the end fight McClane grabs the tv news helicopter with one hand and uses the blades to rotor-mash all of the seal team to death, in an orgy of airbourne crimson claret before jumping off of the wing and doing the zippo thang killing the one remaining pilot and the plane..?
Or Die Hard vith a vengence where he actually eats the Chopper complete with Simon and his cohorts and poops them on to the pavement before stamping on them for half an hour solid before setting fire to the remains?
Or maybe even Die Hard 4.0 where McClane catches the main bad guy half way through the movie, does the shooting himself maneuvure before cannibalising the guy and diarroreaing him all over ninja chicks remains in the liftshaft...?
