mmm

Further investigating finds that with a cylinder with a radius of 5 yards (random guess based on comparison to Iron Man) that the tower, in order to weigh 170 tons, would have to be 1.15 yards tall.

😐

That's assuming it's solid concrete, which it isn't, but it looks close-ish

Wow the writing for this series is awful. Seriously it almost seems like someone is controlling Captain America as he is so out of character
And I thought "civil war" botched characterization. This has been horrible so far. Just an excuse to make the teams fight.

Same thing I was thinking. this whole event is forced. Bleh.

I hope Busiek comes back and retcons it so Immortus controlled them all 131

Yeah, Captain America turned into a complete jerk. Wolverine was not far behind. Romita even draws Cap to look like a tool.

...And just for the lulz, one cubic yard of concrete will cover 54 sq ft, 6 inches deep--and 81 sq ft, 4 inches deep.

ima go with 4 in deep slab, and assuming the tower diameter is about 30 feet, which is kinda small for a tower like that, thats about 13 cu. yards of concrete. per floor, so the tower should be about 6 stories high.

thats 6 floor slabs and one roof slab 😛

and thats assuming that the walls and everything else weights nothing

And assuming those 6 stories have no floors.

Meh screw you guy's that are complaining about the character characterizations for this event, I've been enjoying it.

At least someone is!

I still don't get the fight between Namor and Grimm - I have rarely been as disappointed as with the writing of that fight. Few years ago they tested Muay Thai fighters and found that "On "Fight Science," a muay Thai knee strike generates the impact of a 35 mph (56.33 kph) car crash." http://www.tvsa.co.za/mastershowinfo.asp?mastershowid=1211

So, according to these retards, a punch by a guy who can stand the deepest pressures of the ocean, where "the pressure is equivalent to the weight of an elephant balanced on a postage stamp, or the equivalent of one person trying to support 50 jumbo jets! " equals some random Muay Thai fighter they pulled from the street?
http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/pressure.html

I am sorry, but I teach 8th grades with more freaking sense. So a guy who, according to the facts about Namor, can potentially support 50 jumbo jets, is barely able to hit as hard a a little guy who will have to stand on a chair to kick my ass?!

That is not only stupid - it shows no care for the characters, no thought and no effort.

I was really excited about this, but this is more than garbage - it's plain bullsh!t - and I, for one, will return to reading comics that were created by somebody who actually finished Grade 8 science...

And Jones elbows spin faster than helicopter blades, and GSP punches harder than Velasquez and kicks harder than Shogon.

That show was BS.

But that said the narrative and fun facts in the issue were laughably bad.

Not sure why you would say the show was BS, when everything was measured in a lab in a controlled environment? Measuring the impact of a kick or a punch is not that hard - and comparing it to the impact of a car hitting you is not that difficult either.

So, do you have a problem with the findings? The way they collected the data? The way they measured the data?

See, for me it is not just about the "narrative and fun facts" - I really care about the characters. I grew up with them and to me they are like old friends - which is why I get annoyed when a writer, whose job it is to take care of and develop these characters, show their disregard and contempt for the characters by writing a scene that is so laughably bad, I don't even want to read the rest of the story. And dammit, I was looking forward to it.

Just one of the many reasons why I stopped buying comics... :-(

Those fun facts did seem kind of dumb. But maybe all the writer was really trying to say was the punches actually were like getting hit by a car at 45mph.

Let's face it - people who get punched or kicked by a Muay Thai fighter generally survive the experience. But if you stood in front of a car going at 35mph and let it hit you front on you will probably just fly through the air, undergo severe bodily trauma, and maybe die.

Fly through the air, yeah.

Fly into the upper atmosphere?

Writers should get hit by cars more often or something.

Dammit Wanda.... facepalm2

LoLWhat?

Da Fuq marvel

We couldn't just have a good old fashioned fight till you drop comic mini? This is turning into another Marvel Event trying to be pushed into the third coming of Jesus or something. 🙁

I guess Magneto tells her "it's time to play God" or something like that. Like in the Iron Man/Sentry scene in WWH.

I really, really hope this isn't going to turn into another *YAWN* rewrite the omniverse borefest. Why can't Marvel just try to actually write a good story with some sort of decent action or suspense or interesting plot?

Marvel doesn't want to copy DC.
