I honestly thought the creature was killed from the impact that the Hulk hit it with, and Tony went into protection mode (shrugs).
I can see why you think that. That is more likely to be the case too, but I dunno.
I think this fight will still end in a stalemate. Thor might take some by using his brains, Hulk will take the others by using his fist lol.

I have a question, is the movie based on the Ultimate's or 616 or something in between?

IMO, the reason Thor picked the building was because it gave him a clear view of the aliens so that he could aim the lightning.
For a movie that bathes itself in simplicity this the simplest reason.
The steeple of the building acts as a lightning rod and a ground. As we saw on the ground after he fell, and in the forest, Thor can summon lightning anywhere. If anything the building would've reduced the potency of Thor's attack...but Thor has power to spare.

So Thor was holding back huh? that excuse sort of wears thin after a while.
It is true however.
I honestly wouldn't have thought movie-verse Thor would resort to hand to hand. He liked to fight but he didn't f*ck around, he hit hard and fast with the most appropriate attack whether it was lightning or using Mjolnir as a spinning mini hurricane bat.
The only way I can rationalize him doing almost none of that is him not trying to kill Banner or whatever and being on the Hellicarrier.
I'm getting tired of Thor always being the rationale one. If Hulk can win in hand to hand, that's cool, let Thor cut loose, Hulk's head would make a good trophy on his wall.

30 minutes of Hulk ragdolling Loki.
I thought that scene was hilarious but I was baffled that someone as intelligent as Loki would go on a rant and not use illusions when in close combat against the Hulk.
Also, anyone who thinks Loki has a durability level barely above human is completely out of it. He bounced back from Hawkeye's explosive arrow and Hulk's massive sucker punch. The rag dolling while rocking him hard, didn't knock him out IIRC.

Yeah. Loki has insane durability/damage soak. He also has a level of super strength. He threw Tony through the window like he was nothing.

snip...As I said Thor has never shown lightning on that level in the films even when trying to slaughter the Frost Giants or when he fought Loki.
Odin did say Thor possessed enough power to slay the frost giants himself. Maybe he considered the Chitauri a bigger threat. They were invading the Earth whereas the frost giants were for fun. And really, when has Thor ever tried to really kill or maim Loki. Even at the end of the movie Thor was pretty civil towards Loki after everything he's done.
