Bauer takes on far more complex situations than McClane. Hell, on that same day with the nuclear meltdowns, there was also:
Kidnapping and near execution of the SecDef
Shooting down of AF1 (and yes, Bauer failed, but he only found out about the plot an hour before it happened)
Near Nuclear Strike on the East Coast
Murder of Chinese Diplomat which forced Jack on the run
The only way what you say has any merit is if your are saying that McClane could have soloed Day 4 with less resources than Bauer, and given that McClane has never shown a good tracking ability nor ability to improvise disguises, I'm not seeing him being able to trail Kalil Hassan, and thus, he wouldn't even get through the first quarter of Day 4
So stop with your massive downplaying of Bauer. He takes on far greater threats and thus requires more resources.
