Russell stopped a car. That feat isn't enough to hurt Link very much, and Russell still dies as soon as the Master Sword is unsheathed.
Link gets hurt by far less than Russell. Play through the game and let your foes attack you. The whole point is he needs to use skill, his wolf like abilities, and courage to overcome the evil not like he's some invincible badass.

I don't think Ganondorf or Link can maintain movement speed on par with Russel, please try to keep up, I only pointed out that in a fight they have feats which mean they can react to him, as you still haven't debunked Ganondorf having nearly mach 2 rushdown speed.
