Iron Man 3 vs Man of Steel

100 OW is very good. Like I have said countless time before, there are like 3-4 movies that actually got 100 OW during the July weekend. For MoS to get that, it's quite good. The same article that Ares posted says that WB/DC is expecting 300ML domestic which is right about what most people predicted.

I think it can do better overall 350 Domestic. Hopefully 400 OS but I doubt that

Lol. How is a 100 million OW not encouraging? This film was never going to make TDK or IM3 money.

Plus the article claims it should have good legs.

well since people are claiming yet not providing proof that Man of Steel is tracking to an $130 million opening weekend and since its is being said that Man of Steel is tracking better than Iron Man 3 yet only will make $100 million opening weekend that is bad.. might be good for a fan but bad for a movie studio ..

Not bad for a movie studio at all... That's a massive amount of money. And, no, the link didn't say it wa tracking better than IM3 only that at that point in timeout had sold more tickets which is not surpring given that several major theaters weren't pre-selling IM3 tickets for awhile due to a dispute with Marvel.

Bad for a movie studio? Clearly you are joking. WB/DC already said that making 300ml domestic is VERY good

300 Domestic would be awesome for a reboot. And enough for a JL/Superman franchise.

Yeah, 300 is definitely possible. Superman Return did close numbers but failed OS. This money has to do good OS

lolz.. $ 300 million domestic would a joke considering the amount of money they spent on this.. naturally WB will publicly say that since they don't want to look bad.. every studio does this ..

MoS already has recouped 75% of its budget with such stuff as product placement, promotions, and the like.

When the OS gross is factored in MoS should be well in the black.

What?
This is the website I use when it comes to these Box office numbers
http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/records/100million.php

I'd say being on top 40 list domestic is VERY good. I don't think it's amazing but look at Ironman 1-2. Look at Thor, BB, Captain America. EVEN the Amazing Spider which was in similar shoes as MoS only got about 262 ML WITH A SIMILAR budget.

So yeah, I would say MoS making 300 Domestic is good number. Amazing? maybe not, but most definitely a sucess

Edit: Also notice how many of those top 45 movies or so with grossing number of 300+ ml are actually sequels to successful movies. 30 out of 40

Wow that's some smart marketing.

So basically everything MOS makes now is going to be pure profit. Awesome! More movies pretty much guaranteed then!

doesn't mean anything as this is supposed to start their foray into combining characters.. $300 million here in the states is a poultry and horrible gross especially when you take into consideration how its supposedly outselling Iron Man 3.. if this is really outselling Iron Man 3 ticket wise I am expecting an opening gross of at least $150 to $200 million

Im thunking 300 & 350 Os would be good. It already made its niney back with advertisments. Or at least 75% of it.

300 mill is a very good number no matter how you slice it. And according to the article it should surpass that. As for the reason it's currently outselling IM3, once again that's only because some chains like AMC stopped selling tickets for awhile.

Any way, MoS should easily surpass 600 mil. 700+ is quite likely which is astounding for the first of a reboot and makes the film very profitable.

all it said was its sellung more tickets than previous movies, not that it outsold anything. Im 3 was different since tickets werent available yet.

doesn;t mean a darn thing.. didn;t you yourself say its tracking well to a $130 million opening weekend????

also hollywood reporter is lowballing the figure to as little as $75 million opening weekend

That's WB's prediction. Of course they low ball it so they can go "look how much MoS surpassed our predictions!" Meanwhile other studios are saying 100+.

What are you talking about. It doesn't have to do avengers, or TDK numbers to start JLA or other character. It has to be successful, which if their predictions are right, is SUCCESSFUL.

As far as outselling IRM3, where did anyone say that. No one in their right mind can actually think that MoS a REBOOT, whose previous films failed will outsell a successful franchise. Sorry, that's just wishful thinking by some people. You have to compare MoS with other movies who like Thor, Amazing Spiderman, Captain America, X-Men, Ironman 1, DD..etc.

As i said before, 300 Ml Domestic is successful. Why? Because only 45 other movies did that since they began keeping record. Out of those 45 movies, 30 of them are sequels.

Also, when they said that MoS is selling more then previous Summer movies. They are referring to other July opening movies, which they might have a point. Why? Because more people use the internet now to do their stuff. And there aren't too many movies that actually reached 100+ OW during the month of July. I can count 4 movies that have done that, all had successful sequels

What doesn't mean a darn thing? I'm not following. Tracking doesn't mean jack shit. Hardly anyone predicted the Avengers opening so big or Avatar having tremendous legs.

BTW, here is a REALLY good article on MOS box office.

Love this line:

And be sure to punch anyone who tells you that Man Of Steel is a flop because it “only” opened to $80 million next weekend.

Being it's the first film in a reboot 75 million is a good figure. Spider-Man didn't have huge numbers last year so I'm not expecting MOS to have mega numbers as well but it should get 700 million world wide.
