WB isn't trying to make Superhero movies to make money. It has other genre that it can tap into that would make for good profit. Marvel has a studio dedicated to making SHmovies
There's no other reason for them to make them except for profit really. It may be long term profit they are looking at through sequels,spin-off's and merchandise. But it's still all about more profit.

Why risk making movies with GL/WW..etc when you can make a movie that has a higher return? Marvel has a studio just for Superhero movies, they make them, even if profit isn't top

Exactly. I was hoping one day WB would set up a separate studio just for DC movies, but the chances of that are slim to none. Another poster who I'm good friends with pointed out why.
No, it's actually not. Because Marvel's stock was totally in the toilet and they had everything to gain and nothing left to lose.
When Avi Arad came onboard, Marvel's stock was barely above junk status. He managed to push through movie development after Marvel got their @$$es handed to them in Hollywood by WB/DC for almost 30 years. I remember when Marvel stock hit $20 a share in 2004 and that was such a big deal that USA Today did a front page story in their Business section on it. In the years prior, anyone of us could've bought Marvel stock for pennies on the dollar. Marvel was a f**king joke both in Hollywood and on Wall Street.
As much as we DC fans ***** and complain about WB not getting DC movies right, the fact is WB was the only real game in town for superhero movies from the late 70s through the 80s and into the 90s. I mean, look at how unrelentingly awful Marvel movies were: Roger Corman's Fantastic Four, Dolph Lundgren's Punisher, Matt Salinger's Captain America, the total meltdown and failure of James Cameron's Spider-Man before it could ever even get off the ground. There is a reason that for over 20 years the only comics company with a movie curse named after it was Marvel.
This has never, ever been the case with DC. When it came to success in Hollywood, DC beat Marvel to a bloody pulp for decades in both television and film. In all honesty, Marvel just finally made up for lost time in the past 15 years. DC never went through what Marvel had to go through at the stock market or in movie theaters. Ergo, WB had zero incentive to spin off DC into their own studios. There was no reason; they had zero competition.
Lastly, it's never going to happen now. Movie executive egos being what they are, there's no way in Hell they're going to give comic book people their very own movie studio. Why share the profits or share the glory if you don't have to? Marvel as a movie company came about almost solely because of the combination of Avi Arad's success and Marvel's financial dire straits where they were desperately selling movie and merchandising rights because their stock was at rock bottom and they badly needed the money.
The situation with DC and Warner Brothers is in no way comparable. There's no DC stock to prop up on the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The Batman film franchise has been restored to its former glory and the Superman film franchise finally looks promising again. Plus, no WB executive is going to voluntarily hand over their power to DC Entertainment. Right now, WB is the boss and DCE is the employee. WB has no reason whatsoever to turn their employee into their internal competitor whereas Marvel did what it did simply because it was either make money or die.
That isn't going to happen to DC Comics.

If WB wants to get their characters on the big screen, they need to do this. Kevin Tsujihara is the new WB CEO and he was the former DC publisher. Maybe he'll set up DC's Kevin Feige, but who knows.

Who is this mystery friend of yours? From the looks of it, he seems to be a pretty ardent Marvel-hater.
lol, It's just an online friend. He works for a studio and keeps me in the loop of some things he hears from both companies, Disney/WB. Rumors and whatnot. He posts on CBR as Flashpoint.

IM3 was always going to make more money, now that I think about it. It had way more momentum from the previous movies and Avengers, so, whether people liked it or not, they still saw it.
Exactly.
Man of Steel (Warner Bros.) — $271.2 million
The box office performance of the latest Superman reboot has been a hotly contested topic. Some consider it a slam dunk, since it opened with $128.7 million and easily surpassed the disappointing $200 million domestic total of 2006′s Superman Returns. Some consider it a disappointment, since it cost a whopping $225 million to produce and has fallen swiftly from its gargantuan debut, putting it on track for a $300 million domestic finish. I fall into the former camp. Warner Bros. marketed the heck out of this Zack Snyder-directed sequel; it’s already earned $542.9 million worldwide (Returns grossed just $391 million) en route to a likely $700 million finish. While that pales in comparison to Iron Man 3‘s global haul, Man of Steel is a franchise launchpad — not a sequel — and it nicely sets up Warner Bros. to build a mega-profitable series around appealing star Henry Cavill.
MOS will surpass the first two IM movies, which is a huge success.
Originally posted by DARTH POWERMost here think Superman is the biggest icon so people should expect more from that franchise. IronMan shredding it shows how badly marvel is handing dc their asses.
True you could credit it to the studios decisions. I just think they were probably surprised themselves at what a box office draw Downey ended being as Iron Man.And I agree IM1 was just a really good movie all around.
The Superman reboot is on route to doing almost as well as the Spider-Man reboot. So IM has "shreddded" them both just as much.
Fact is we know that shredding isn't just down to IM, but also down to Avengers. We can see from the box office draw of the 3 IM films, that IM3 clearly got a huge boost from Avengers.
That's something it seems Spider-Man will never get. But Superman can get that one day if a JL movie is done right.
Avengers is the greatest superhero movie to date. Great job marvel.
I don't want to hear excuses. IronMan3 crapped on an icon.

Edit:
FYI this is Iron Man box office collection according to Mojo
IM1: 585,174,222
For IM2: $623,933,331
So MoS is going to have to really pull something out to beat that number by a significant margin.
