But the US MSRP was 499$ and 599$ (for the 60GB version) http://money.cnn.com/2006/05/08/technology/ps3_pricing/

Did they change that again? I can't find any other info.

Yeah, that's correct.

I remember because that was the specific reason why I chose to get the 360 rather than the PS3. As the 360 premium edition (the core was useless) was $100 less than than the cheapest PS3.

I've only been talking about that $499 one (you dirty EU member...putting your money symbol on the wrong side of numbers). You can add bells and whistles and drive up the price on anything.

Okay, but Smasandian was talking about the "premium" version. And since there were only two versions that must mean the 60GB version. So my calculation was actually correct (excluding tax), and at the peak exchange rate it was cheaper in Canadian Dollars.

And who bought the 20GB version? It didn't have WiFi unless you think WiFi is an unneeded accessory.

I'm wondering if there will be multiple SKU's for the new consoles. I'm thinking XBOX One will not have one. Not sure about PS4.

I gotta admit, that "Greatness Happens" commercial is nice. Especially towards the end

I'm just assuming there will be two versions of each. I'd be shocked if MS didn't have a cheaper version to compete with the PS4's lower price.

I still think MS is going to walk back most of the shit that's getting them thrashed online. But with how much they're screwing up it might be too little too late. If things stay the way they are it's looking like this next generation will see a complete domination of one console over its competitor in a way we've not seen since the PS1 vs the Saturn.

It was a big mistake for MS them to try and push the Kinect 2 and make it an essential part of the console, seeing as most people seem to not care much about it.

I don't think it will be that bad. The Saturn was a piece of shit machine without games.

It's too early to say what will happen with the XBOX One but I don't think it's the same situation.

With all the dumb things that Microsoft is doing and saying and not doing enough to debunk one has to wonder if they have a single actual player in their ranks.

I'm guessing everyone at Microsoft is a PC gamer.

That's assuming every gamer is the same.

Over 70 million consoles were sold. Not all of them care about used games or Internet connectivity.

Why would someone spend what looks like $200 more for a PS3 when they can just buy the hard drive and HDMI cable?

IMO, that sounds like a dumb move. I remember that being a big deal when the PS3 came out: "don't buy the next tier PS3: buy the bigger HDD and HDMI cable yourself." I didn't buy a bigger HDD but I did already have an extra HDMI cable. I didn't fall for that "trap".

You could also (and may still be able to) but a $550 Xbox 360.

To me, the "bells and whistles" version for comparison is not a good comparison. I compared the basic NESsetup, not the super setup that cost $300 in 1985 that came with lots of stuff and games.

So, to me, it makes no sense to compare an "upgraded" version to the PS3. I'll stick with the basic in my comparisons because you can buy some pretty absurd packages and special additions as part of your console bundle. It gets too out of hand to make any sort of genuine comparison. *

*Maybe not if you did a "2 controllers and 2 new games" comparison. I think the NES had a package like that and so does/did the PS3.

I was about to pull out my tin-foil hat...but then I put it away.

MS may Steam it up?

Maybe they will combine their One console into a PC and make it a "hardware kit" for the PC and really amp up the competition with Sony?

According to this, http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/SKU_Models

The 20 GB version of the PS3 did not have wireless. That version was discontinued.

Crap...so how did I end up with a 20GB HDD PS3 that also has Wi-Fi?

I cannot find that 'version' anywhere and it was the "cheap" version.

I never upgraded the HDD, either: it is still 20GB.

Nintendo's approach is "if we dont make games we dont have to worry about users trading them in"

And dammit, its worked for them!

That's a good one. hahaha

Nintendo have finally worked out what the internet is for, which is nice. I still don't quite get Animal Crossing, though.
