hahahahahaha! No!You guys are outta your minds. Spider-Man has been a household names as of the 2000's. Iron Man only in the last decade.
Saying either of those characters are as popular and well known as Batman or Superman is like saying that because Justin Bieber is huge right now, he's just as popular and well known globally as Michael Jackson was in his day.
Next to Superman, and possibly Batman, he is the most well known comic character.

Of course they did. I take it your quite young not remembering pre-spidey movie days.
Why do you think Ramai's first Spiderman film had so much hype to it? It wasn't because it was just THAT GREAT a movie.

Spider-Man was pretty popular and well known, along the lines of Superman.
Hulk is pretty up there too. Everyone and their grandma knew who he was as well.

I can't take you seriously if you actually believe what you're saying.Spiderman is a cultural icon, everyone knows who he is.
Spiderman is Kings of Leon... good, lot of people know and like 'em, but Batman and Superman are the Beetles. They are not on the same level. not close.
Actually yeah forgot how famous Hulk was too back in the day.
But then Wonder Woman was pretty famous too. Another well known icon was always Captain America.
But the big 3 were always Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. Just because the first 2 got to the big screen first doesn't mean they were ahead of Spider-Man in terms of fame and pop culture.

Superman started the whole super hero craze and made it big when he was created. He's the granddaddy of all super heroes and the template for how a lot of others were made. Batman was created at first as a copy of Superman (except human). I'd say Spiderman and Batman set the bar in terms of quality and changed the most when it comes to stories. Spiderman had the first major death of an important character (a love interest) in comics that changed the way comics were written, and Batman was the first to have a child as his side kick (which we wouldn't have the teen titans or young justice without). Those two also have the best rogues gallery (although I'd say Spiderman wins there by a little).
Spiderman and Batman are on top right now, with Supes and Iron Man catching up quick. My favorite though, if you cant tell by my name, is Spiderman.
