Well well… all is canon, I guess…. I'll miss saying: "That's EU!!! Go away!!" 😉
I don't think that will be the case. I think some EU stuff will be thrown out so a "solid" non-contradictory canon can be created.
This throws out the idea that GL had about them being parallel universes: they will be part of the same universe, now. I guess that's good.
What are you thoughts? How is this bad? How is this good? Please, don't skimp on the details.
It's great for future EU fans. It's great for movie fans who one day pick up a comic or decide to read a Star Wars novel.
Might prove a bit difficult though for the movie makers, as they will need an EU expert to tell them what they can and can't do. I guess SW authors will have more regulations about what they can write about too.
But overall I love the idea of a shared Universe. Marvel has done it with their movies and tv shows. Now Lucasfilm will have a greater shared Universe involving Moives, Television, Books and comics ,one that isn't full of countless contradictions Post-Lucas (hopefully).
For me SW, is still MOVIES… that's where they were created and that's why SW novels exist at all.
I will find it difficult to have some decent debates about these movies if everyone comes up with references from the large number of books and comics. I've read a few, certainly not all, nor will I. There are better books around than the great variety of SW novels. So it will dilute the movie debates a bit, I think. And that's too bad. SW is not ST… the technology and political/moral ramifications of ST are not really relevant for SW… SW is a fairytale first… to be honest, it's not even very great as geofiction (like Tolkien's Middl Earth, the ST universe or the Dune universe)… so I prefer a movie only approach to SW.
This is the link to the article that claims so:

Arndt apparently felt that the main characters of Star Wars: Episode VII should be the offspring of Luke Skywalker (Hamill), Han Solo (Ford), and Princess Leia (Fisher), with the original Star Wars actors taking supporting roles in the story. Abrams felt differently, as he was eager to focus Episode VII on Luke, Han, and Leia “so audiences could have one more chance to enjoy them before a fitting send-off.” George Lucas was also involved in the debate (Arndt wrote the treatment for Lucas before Lucasfilm was sold to Disney), but he deferred to Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy, and with Arndt now completely off the project, the lead characters of Episode VII will indeed be Luke, Han, and Leia while their offspring will take on supporting roles. The plan now is to have the younger characters take over as the leads in Episode VIII and Episode IX.
And we have a script!
It only took like 1 and a half years.
What's in this amazing script though? Who knows.

I felt comfortable with the "separate universes" idea. There are lots of problems/contradictions with them being the same universe.
Currently, any problems that arise between the movies and the EU, we can just hand-waive as being "not part of the same universe." Once Chee's new system gets underway, I have no idea how the **** we are supposed to deal with that other than Chee making press releases. That can get tedious.
But, for Chee, who is a massive massive fan, this is every Star Wars' fan's dream: to get to go through all the Star Wars comics, novels, and movies, and then decide what is canon and what is not. I don't know about you but I would love to get paid Chee's salary (and bonuses) and do what he does.
You come into work, read novels, play games, or watch movies. All of it Star Wars. 🙂
Mark Hamill did an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on reddit, today:

He beats around the bush about the film, unfortunately.
Carrie Fisher did let it leak that the trio would be returning for 7, however.
Edit - Also, this is one of the top voted questions for Mark:
"Mark, I'm hungry. Should I eat the BBQ chips that are kinda stale but sitting right next to me, or go all the way downstairs and make some chicken nuggets?
EDIT: Please answer. I've been waiting all day to ask you this and I'm really hungry."
This was Mark's answer:
"Well, I would go down and make the chicken nuggets, but bring the chips with you, put them in the oven for 10 minutes or so while waiting for your nuggets, and you have the best of both worlds."
FFS, Star Wars fans...stop fitting the stereotypes. 🙁
