Probably, yeah, though I don't want to open a 1v1 Pandora's Box here. There are situations that favor one or the other, though. It's not always clear-cut. Per my earlier comments, I'm repping Thor in this fight more because of the fight stips. and battlefield size.
Gladiator isn't a contender; he's an underdog. He's weaker, slower and less durable than the top people here, especially Superman who basically has his powerset but better.
Picking Surfer is fine. He's really one of the top guys you could pick. Picking Superman or Thor is just as decent a pick, why? Because Surfer, like Superman and Thor, has weaknesses or vulnerabilities that can be exploited by several of the people in this thread. Those three are still the top dogs either way.

Lol at Gladiator not being able to match Superman strength and speed. Marvel has been throwing around Gladiator power level since his birth. The guy is a true light speedster with planetary strength and high end durability. If anyone on this field can beat Superman face in, it would be Gladiator. Don't know why when I think Superman could pull the majority against Gladiator but I also think Glads can pull wins from anyone here and with some, majorities. Like I've stated before, the main 3 are Thor, Superman, and Surfer and out of those 3, an argument could be made either way.

And again, I think who decides to fight who and strategy is entirely moot in this setting. The laughably limited battlefield makes such decisions irrelevant. In an open environment, we'd have more to discuss.
But I'm familiar with Surfer's history, too, and there's not much there that would make me think 'Well, that's a game changer, he definitely has the biggest chances to win this'. Yes, he has a reputation [both in and outside the comics], but strictly talking in terms of abilities and what he could do here, I just don't see it.
