Indeed. There are many MMA fighters who are not BJJ black belts or champion wrestlers, but who are able to effectively incorporate takedowns and submissions in their game. A lot of MMA trainers actually teach their fighters a veyr limited range of the different styles they use because they simply don;t have time to learn everything, so they just teach them the most important and the stuff that translates best into MMA. Greg Jackson created his own custom style, Gaidojutsu, that contains elements of kickboxing, Judo, wrestling, BJJ, when he himself only has a personal background in BJJ.
