It's basically true.
The audience had a choice for who they wanted to be "the main character" of the X-Men franchise. They chose Logan, like... a long time ago.
The fact that The Wolverine doubled its budget in ticket sales after the abomination that was Origins is pretty damning. Compare that to Dredd, which was a legitimately decent film yet tanked massively because how bad the film that proceeded it was... even though it came out 20 years ago.
Origins being complete ass was fresh in everyones' minds as they went to see the Wolverine anyway. People love Wolverine too much.
Or Hugh Jackman. Take your pick.
