It's his first tourney so he's fighting enough of an uphill battle. Flying blind would certainly be a disservice to him. And to others who have 1-2 picks that are obvious and/or known through discussion here. I don't care a ton personally, but given the right/wrong matchup, it could bite anyone.
thanks for the concern but it's cool. might be a newbee here but I'm a tourney vet of several other sites. My schtick is usually going with more obscure character because i know them better than most. for example in what other sites would call street level but is low meta here I use the likes of Argus, Mark Shaw manhunter, Justice from Marvel New Universe ( well it's not so new anymore, Hmmm that gives me another thought for here). for higher tiers almost always a mix of JSA, infinity inc, All star Squadron, Doom Patrol, Defenders and heroes for hire and West coast Avengers.
I will say the way tourneys seem to be run here is very different to what I'm used to. the normal way I've played is simply that the tourney master sets up a scenario / guidelines and a draw. the participants make their case( strategies and counters to them etc) then the thread is opened to votes by all and sundy. one with the most votes wins. So I'm looking forward to participating the way you guys play. I may need some guidance though
