They just rang him up and offered him the role apparently. Makes me think they don't care what the comic version is like when Batman, Superman and WW all had far more consideration than just handing someone the role.

no, although a person in here will say otherwise the truth is that WB was transitioning over to Kevin Tsujihara taking over and wanted to keep the likes of Affleck, Nolan and Eastwood under WB. He took each to dinner and convinced them to stay.. With Affleck after Nolan said to hire Snyder, he also told Tsujihara to hire Affleck.
This happens a lot here where a studio would hire an actor/actress w/o the benefit of that them auditioning..

Good point. Signing him for the role meant more than just him playing the role. Its keeping the door open to also have the Oscar winning director in the fold to possibly direct for them again. That one atleast makes alot of business sense.
