I wasn't aware Daredevil had an iconic voice like Batman.

He doesn't. Nevertheless Affleck did go for the intimidating voice routine in that movie. If his Batman voice is anything like that then that will be bad news.

I do agree with this. As I said, the film will fail if the script fails. MoS was definitely flawed, and if those flaws cross over to the new films, there could be a major problem. But as I said, this all has to do with the scriptwriting

Which is why on top of the problems they're already facing they really can't afford to mess up Batman.

However I've heard Affleck would most likely be involved in the whole creation process. And if he is that will most likely be good news, given he's a fan and one of Hollywood's most sought out Director's. Plus we've known he's good with scripts since him and Damon started out with Goodwil Hunting.

Based on what Affleck's shown, IMO he can handle the role. He's only bad in badly written films like Gigli. He's great when given a good script to work with.

Tbh I've not seen his more recent films in which he's supposed to be really good, so I can't really judge. I just remember things like Daredevil and Gigli which is why I initially freaked out. That and plus you expect that Intimidating look from Batman which I've never seen from Affleck. And that's kind of important.

That is the real question I have.

Hopefully it's because he really impressed Synder, Goyer and Nolan in the casting process.

Hopefully!

Do you honestly think it will be like that?

So they got one of the most talented people in the film business to play him. Only thing that could possibly fail now is the script.

Definitely agree with this.

He's done plenty of good roles too. IDK why people are still associating him with his JLo days when he's become so much more accomplished since. It's like trying to make fun of RDJ for the stuff he did in the 90's.

Isn't that what the Bat cowl is for? It's not like he'll be smirking the whole time. The only thing they need to work on is his voice. He'll be indistinguishable from anyone else who put on the mask., considering the only part you see is their mouth. I've never heard of Bruce Wayne himself being intimidating, but if that's what people want.....

^ Yeah I am coming around to the idea now of Ben being Batman. I wish him all the best in the role, mainly for my own entertainment 😉

As do I. Only thing I'm worried about is if we get some MoS-level characterization. That would be a major blow to this film.

If one would allow me to go on a tangent, I think Marvel has the more successful film franchise because it's protagonists are simply flawed people with superhuman abilities, which is easier to write stories around, whereas DC's characters are more like paragons of ideals. I think Nik Hasta said it best when he stated "Spiderman is the hero we would be. Superman is the hero we would strive to be."

MoS Superman seemed pretty flawed to me. And Nolan Batman was no paragon either

Nolanverse batman was flawed in a more personal way. MOS superman was more reluctant and despite having the kent upbringing (which wasn't all peaches and cream like they ussually potray it) he still seemed to be forming his resolve. He didn't just become this giant becon of hope and stuck to his morals no matter what. He was a rookie superman who made mistakes and seemed to struggle a little with what to do. I don't know how much more 'flawed' you can get with superman until he isn't superman anymore.

I'm not saying good character arcs for Supes and Bats can't be written (although I thought Clark's in MoS wasn't satisfactory IMO), but it's far easier for Marvel since their characters have more flaws to work off of. I think DC is more for kids due to it's idealistic, light-hearted characters, and Marvel is more geared towards teens and adults who see the cynicism of the world.

That's not how Marvel portrays them in the films though. If anything, DC has done a much better job at showing flawed, interesting characters with The Dark Knight trilogy, V For Vendetta, and Watchmen.

The old "Marvel's characters are more flawed" argument.

Great, because that isn't overplayed and outdated as hell at all.

The reason I started enjoying DC was because their character development got better (not necessarily "flawed"; I prefer "nuanced"😉. Eg, I loved the thought bubbles each had of the other in the Superman/Batman stories. Hell, what made me take a good close look at Superman was how he was portrayed in his animated series (same with Batman in his AS; but I prefer my heroes superpowered).

Marvel started the whole "flawed, more realistic hero" thing back in the day. But DC has caught up very nicely, and in some ways, it's still "new" and more refreshing to me. I can't recall the last time I bought a Marvel comic (maybe the last arc where Surfer and Thor fought, and the reason for buying that, I think, is obvious). But, til recently, I had been keeping up with the DCnu Superman.

I think on the big screen DC projects have definitely been appealing more to adults than kids- The Dark Knight Trilogy, Watchmen and V for Vandetta.

Whilst the Spider-Man films and Avengers were definitely more family and children movies than most of the DC projects.

Brad Pitt could have done this with flying colors yet they pick Affleck??

its very simple Affleck was among various people who were going to bolt WB so in an effort to keep him he was offered the role.. its being said that Affleck will direct the Justice League film as well as star in multiple films as Batman

So JL is being put in the hands of a multi-Oscar winning director? Awesome!

I will agree with this. Oddly enough, it seems DC has enhanced their characterization while Marvel has decreased it.

Snyder flat out said he's been interested in Affleck for a while now.

And seriously no, I don't think there was even a casting process.
The whole project smells of Brand Name placement.

Oh c'mon! How many times have you heard an actor say they were always a fan as a kid & now they get to pay their fav superhero.
It's a bullsh#t ploy. In all the Kevin Smith movies that Affleck cameoed in, not once was there ever a reference to Affleck's affinity to Batman, considering all the movies had comic book references in them.

Whether Affleck's a sought out director doesn't give him credit enough to know what direction to take with playing Batman & if you're already implying Affleck's input in the script based on Good Will Hunting will be positive...then God Almighty this is gonna be another failure on the scale of WaterWorld.

And seriously I don't think there was any casting calls at all.
The whole things is just simply relying on Brand Name placement.

the worst box office flops always seem to have the most aggressive campaigns of pre-release vouching. just my observation.
