I just did my research i think aang even without the avatar state should be mid meta
Controls fire, earth, water, ice, air, lightning. Has ran so fast that he created a tornado. Can feel vibrations through the earth, giving him the ability to react quickly to an opponent’s attack even when blinded or out of his line of vision. Has froze lava with his breath. Is capable of channeling a bolt of lightning through his body and firing it in another direction. And these are only a few things I found that he did without the Avatar state.

Small Building level elemental control, sub sonic speed, low level precog. He's high on the list of Low Metas.
He's an all rounded top level one. LMs around excel in certain traits but fail in others. Its when you compare everything he has to MMs that you see he doesn't quite belong there. Nearly every MM trumps his speed, body, power and other skills by good amount.

No, he really couldn't.
Knuckles has hypersonic speed and reactions far above this, he can summon lightning bolts and use volcano punches (for that elemental slot). Sonic himself has the raw strength to dominate anything Avatar verse has to offer, and his strength doesn't compare to Knuckles'.
Case in point; Knuckes is too fast for Aang and could turn him into a blazing spray of mush with a single punch.

If you're going to ask for citations, at the very least, you should provide some yourself. I know he did these things, but it's kinda hypocritical.
Knuckles crashed into Sonic fast enough to destroy an entire reality. Aang has no speed showings on par with that.
On another note, if Beast!Cole McGrath isn't already on the list, I elect him for High Meta. The Beast is a casual city-buster, so that alone is worth mention.

Most Sonic characters can keep pace with, but not outrun, Sonic himself IIRC.
Knuckles can keep up with a non max-speed Sonic, hypersonic. Sonic can casually tear through robots and punch cars around and besides that not even being his greatest strength feats, his strength is still below Knuckles. Sonic Heroes, the guy punches the ground and spews a mini eruption along with all his fire elemental punches.
Think about it, in an actual fight what can base Aang do to phase Knuckes? Air and water? Not offensive enough. Fire? Fire fists say meh to that. Earth? He can easily punch through anything thrown at him. Utilize his speed? Knux faces guys who could effortlessly blitz Aang.

3:06 is when he starts running but in the video he has shown to have quick reflexes and has shown to dodge moves in a spit second like when bumi almost crushed him between to rocks aang was only given like a split second when he realized he was about to be crushed and this is all before he even learned Earth bending and he obtained so much power afterwards.
Just because Knuckles is faster dosent mean he is going to win. he has always lost to people slower then him because of his attitude he is to temperamental and his emotions always get the best of him. Fire punches wont do much cause aang has been hit with fire several times and it didn't even keep down and his lighting aang redirects lighting so that's useless. That and Aang can energy bend and swipe knuckles elemental powers so ya goodbye fire punches. and know before anyone says it it does not only work on benders the elemental powers anybody has aang can take away cause its a form of energy that he can take away.
