On the one hand, it undermines Vader's ROTJ sacrifice, but on the other, Palpatine is arguably the single most important character in all six films in that the story is driven entirely by his actions. The saga carrying on without him seems disturbing.

Just not more of the same, Palptine's time is over, at least for ep 7. If they want to touch back on him in film 8 or 9, I won't complain as long as it's written very well.
