Well then you agree with me. Age of Ultron was a letdown.

Yes, but I feel like maybe if the Ultron movie had been the first Avengers film..I'd be thinking that was the better of the two.

Just because until Avengers came out we didn't really have a true super hero team movie. Not truly. We had Fantastic Four, but that was..well, ignoring the quality of those movies they also weren't apart of some grander universe like Avengers was.

I would compare it to like..if you showed a little kid from the late 1970's the first Star Wars movie..and then if you showed a kid from the modern age the first Star Wars movie. The 70's kid would be blown the f*ck away. The modern day kid? Eh.

Not at all, there just really wasn't much more to say. It's not worth getting in a 10 page debate over the cleverness of Joss Whedon.

Joss Whedon is kind of a phaggot and not particularly clever personally.

He writes pretty clever dialogue though.

Angel is still his best work.

No reason to project your self-hatred onto a public persona. Btw, writers don't become public figures with a loyal, fervent fanbase unless there's something special about their personality. In the case of Whedon, say what you want about the guy, but he's the wittiest most clever motherfuker I've seen.

He's pretty good, but I couldn't find a single thing to really like about the Firefly series/film. Buffy and Angel were great, Dollhouse certainly should have had a longer run, and Avengers was great, but he's not perfect. No writer is when they have timetables and specific marks to hit, nor are they when they're doing one of the things they should be doing: writing for themselves as well as their audience. A lot of Firefly just didn't have the right kind of connection that was going to appeal to all.

I've loved everything from Lexx to Fifth Element when it comes to sci-fi done differently, but Firefly never did it for me in the least.

That's totally fine, some things hit people in different ways. And I could probably go on a tirade about what firefly means to me and why it so emotionally resonates with me and the depth and genius behind particular lines of dialogue here and there, how unique and authentic the characters are or how fleshed out the world is. But it's just about how you look at things and how deep you get into it.

Where you're wrong though is when you compare it to "other" science fiction like Lexx and Farscape. Firefly/Serenity is a dirty, grounded western that happens to have spaceships, there's no flashy aliens or giant monster bugs or phasers. It's not a spectacle show, it's a character journey about 9 people who look into the blackness of space and all see something different. It's about why do these people choose to live on the fringe of civilization and just barely get by. I think the opening theme Ballard of Serenity says everything that needs to be said tbh YouTube video

Yeah this is the full version of Mal's song and it consistently makes me cry like a *****

I was referencing Lexx and Fifth Element to say that I enjoy all ranges of Sci-fi in whatever ways they think outside of the box. I enjoyed Earth: Final Conflict, Starship Andromeda, Farscape, and lots of others with lots of diverse chars. Firefly just never did it for me. You don't have to defend it or tell me why it amazed you, I'm simply saying that you can't be everything to everyone, and Joss isn't perfect in his execution every time IMO.

k that's fine you can have your opinion. I just have to say though the first episode of farscape was a corny dull piece of shit imo

When it comes to Whedon I agree with what Cracked.com said about him: he is funny and witty when trying to be funny and witty, and hilarious when trying to be serious.

Disagree and agree. I do like Angel a lot more and yet it doesn't give me that feeling..that feeling some shows give you down in your gut. Buffy does give me that. Probably because it's where Angel spawned from. By the time it came out Joss had been honing his skills for years with Buffy.

Angel has a lot of great episodes though and usually shows begin to dip in quality a bit after 2-3 seasons, but some of the best stuff out of Angel came from seasons 4 and 5. Especially once Spike joined the cast in season 5..I think that was the best season. The episode that shows flashbacks to WW2 is awesome. Oh and the one where Spike and Angel go to Italy.

Angel has my favorite series finale of any show ever. The fight was never over for Angel. It felt very Godfather like settling of all accounts and the Wesley death scene is heart-wrenching af

, Dollhouse certainly should have had a longer run,

The one thing that constantly bugged me about DollHouse was always wondering exactly how much did the clients pay to have an "engagement" with the dolls?

In one episode, Echo is hired simply as a babysitter but ends up foiling an assassination attempt that DollHouse knew nothing about.

In other episode, Echo is hired for a "romantic" camping weekend, where sex is implied/expected but she ends up being prey to a sadistic hunting game.

So what exactly was the going rate to hire Echo?
Big difference in being hired as a babysitter to being hired as a high class hooker?

I also found Firefly and Serenity pretty underwhelming. Though I liked the concept and characters, but the stories they were given just ended up quite boring for the most part.

Love Buffy and Angel though. And obviously Avengers. Not seen Dollhouse.

I loved Angel the series, but I just hate endings with no endings. So that kind of irritated me.

I get fighting in the Apocalypse was his destiny and all. But I feel after hyping up the Apocalypse and Angel's role in it the entire series, they really should have given us some of it instead of just ending the series as it starts.

Also did Gunn die then? Did the amp Angel got from drinking the blood of the Wolf, Ram and Hart last or was it a one off? Too open ended IMO.

They continued it in a comic book (Angel: After the Fall). It's actually recommended reading if you're an Angel/Buffy Fan. Some good stuff.

^ Is that canon?

It's plotted by Joss Whedon. And written by Brian Lynch. (The Spike comic is definately considered canon.)

So, maybe? The fact they're involved makes it canon enough for me.

^ Fair enough. Yeah I definitely need to check them out given I was a massive fan of the show (both shows actually), but I heard some pretty silly things about the comics like Buffy and Angel flying, and Buffy basically being SuperWoman. So didn't sound very canon.
