The more I think about this movie the less I like it

Yeah, it doesn't hold up well to repeat viewing outside of the theatre experience.

It was no Avengers, that's for sure.

Those movies are sort of "meh" on repeat viewings as well though.

Episode 8 is being compared to Empire. Which is good because Empire is pretty much the best SW's film.

Who the **** said it was ? It's better than you gave it credit for, hater.

Since when were the Avengers movies..great movies..in a way The Force Awakens was not?

People got nerd boners for finally seeing the Avengers on screen. People got nerd boners for finally seeing a new Star Wars film that didn't have George Lucas at the helm.

People liked the fights and the explosions and some of the jokes, but other than that it's not like either movie was a bastion of clever dialogue and character development.

But then Star Wars was never a great series because of that anyways.

I think Avengers was awesome. It's all opinion based but I can't see how anyone can say it wasn't.

It was awesome. That is the thing. Thor was going around hitting shit with his hammer and shooting lightning. Iron Man made his quips and also punched and exploded things. Captain America showed he was old. Black Widow struck sexy poses whilst fighting aliens. Hulk smashed some shit. Samuel L Jackson had an eye patch. A good time was had by all.

Movies can indeed be good in different ways. But Avengers and Star Wars were more or less awesome in similar ways.

Do you think Star Wars Force Awakens was better than the first Avengers ?

Indeed. It's probably part of why I almost never buy movies anymore outside of the initial theater experience. A lot of the most hyped movies like Avengers tend to easily become less and less watchable for me upon re-runs. Not sure how I would judge TFA as far as that though since I've still yet to get around to rewatching it.

Aye. Hope for the new storyline's sake that episode 8 is on ESB levels of good, or it'll start losing support fast.

I'd say I did like the first Avengers better. I just think they are both good in similar ways.

Though I did have issues with Age of Ultron. Mostly the Hulk/Widow thing.

Well then you agree with me. Age of Ultron was a letdown.

Avengers had more depth and newness to it than force awakens I think. There are small things in avengers

- like Steve telling tony stark that he'd never make the sacrificial play or "lay down on the wire" only to have Tony nearly sacrifice himself to prevent the nuking of New York

- like Tony making a joke in the beginning that Coulson's first name is agent and then after Coulson's death he kicks Loki's ass and says "that one's for my friend, Phil"

- Like the idea that none of the avengers belong on a team together but they assemble anyways because the world needs them and Coulson needs to be avenged

- Like how Bruce banner acts with lots of reservation and is want to be the hulk in the beginning, that's why he isolates himself in India. But by the end of the movie he embraces his anger and becomes a Hulk that saves people and doesn't kill them.

Also there's more moments in Avengers to fall in love with then Star Wars. Avengers has the hulk Loki smash, the cop listening to captain America after he owns an alien, galaga guy etc... Star Wars is fun, but there's no signature moments to latch onto that stick in your memory. In Star Wars it's just bad guys chase good guys, bad guys shoot at good guys. The closest Star Wars comes to a moment is the last scene with Luke, and that's driven just by recognition and nostalgia...

YouTube video

Sounds about right.

The Avengers had much more clever dialogue lol.

Dialogue is one of its best aspects.

The Avengers was a transcendent experience for me. I see a lot of movies per year, and I don't think that I've ever had as much of a high since May of 2012. I still get goosebumps when that circle shot happens, and the Battle of New York is forty minutes of sheer and utter joy. It's the trench run from the first Star Wars level tense and exciting. Yep, The Avengers is a nearly perfect movie imo, and all of the ex post facto criticisms of it don't hold much purchase with me. Age of Ultron was disappointing in many ways, but solid. It's like one of the weaker episodes of Buffy.

The Force Awakens I straight up hated. None of the new characters were memorable except for maybe Kylo Ren. Rey is a completely flat and wooden character with no personality. Finn is a great IDEA, but he wasn't executed well imo, which is a shame, because that guy's a good actor. None of the jokes were funny. All of the OT characters were wasted. It's a complete rehash of the original trilogy, and it's just in a general a soulless corporate product imo.

I love this movie.

I like all the SW Movies, I only like the prequels for the fights though.

I was referring to the first Avengers being epic in a way Episode 7 was not.

AOU I agree was Meh.

I didn't get "Meh" for Avenger's 2 from surtur's post, Not sure where you got that idea from.
