What say you fgts?
There are better ways to have gone about it.
The greater risk of harming yourself with your own saber is a big problem, as is the fact that the lightsaber port extends a couple inches outward, making it relatively easy to destroy (and ruining the point of the saber).
Two redesigns I've seen are a bit better:
The claymore-esque guard brings the blades a bit further away from your hand for safety, but there is still the problem of the exhaust ports protruding too much.
I rather like this one for providing a solid place to put your hand (keeping it from slipping up on the blades), but the crossguard being straight still poses a safety risk IMO.
I'd have preferred a sort of hybrid of the two pictures. The three separate prongs of the first could have been sort of welded together to be one semi-triangular block, with each laser extending from it. They would be so close together that the risk of one of the saber's ports being lopped off would be virtually impossible, while still providing an effective guard for your hand and a potentially lethal tool (in a clash you could pull your blade as you step to the side of them, forcing them to stumble forward while you rake one of the smaller blades across their face).
I like the idea behind it, but the design itself could use some work. 👆
This is all assuming you give a **** about practicality. Lightsabers were never designed with practicality in mind.
