As I stated before in the ST:ID thread, I hope he doesn't do SW like that. His NuTrek franchise consisted pretty much of Michael Bay style mindless popcorn flicks that contained none of the wonder of exploration that TOS and TNG had. If you think I'm hyperbolic, Robert Orci, one of the writers of the NuTrek films, also co wrote Revenge Of The Fallen (and the duds Cowboys and Aliens, Enders Game, and TASM2) , so my claim of Bayness has some merit.
As I stated before, I am by no means a ST fan and have only seen a few episodes of TOS/TNG, but I would watch Where No Man Has Gone Before or Best Of Both Worlds before I'd watch any of the NuTrek films again. the difference in quality and themes between the NuTrek films and the Tv series was very clear when I saw them. The Tv series left me contemplating various themes after watching episodes, where I was forgetting the cookie cutter plot of the ST:ID while I was leaving the theater.
I agree that Super 8 may be Abram's best film, but note that is mainly because he was using a lot of Spielbergian directing style and tropes, so it was more or less a Spielberg film with lens flares.
Honestly I consider Zach Snyder to be a better director, at least in terms of visuals.
That being stated, unlike ST, this film is being co written by Lawrence Kasdan, who co wrote the OT and Raiders. And the Abrams written MI3 is probably my favorite of the MI series. So it'll probably be entertaining.
Thing is though, what will make or break this film for me is what new themes it gives us. What made the OT so amazing was that it was a never before seen mash up of various fictional genres, historical events, and philosophical concepts. If there's one thing that the PT proved, it is that action can not replace a good story and themes. We will see which one Abrams chooses to prioritize. I'm sure the movie won't be horrible, but it will be the difference between a good movie and a great one.
Imo, Quan isn't even bandwagoning. He's just trolling for attention. No sane human being on this planet would prefer the mindless junk food NuTrek flicks over the deep and explorative wonder of the TOS and TNG TV series. Saying he prefers Genysis over T2 just proves that he is just a pathetic attention whore trying to be an idiot contrarian to get people to reply to him. Either that, or if he's being serious, he's a pathetic insecure manchild with horrible taste, although I guess that applies either way.
The only argument to defend the newer ST films in comparison to the show's is that it's obviously a lot more difficult to include the political depth and sense of exploration and discovery the shows had in a 2 hour film. The ST:TNG movies had the advantage of not having to worry about building character relations etc as they had already been long established
Personally I'd like to see what Jonathan Frakes would do as director of the rebooted ST.

I'd hope so on the action part, CGI has come a long way in the last 10 years.Hopefully we'll get to see what can really happen when two powerful Force-users clash. I'm hoping for live versions of the SWTOR CGI fight scenes.
I hope not. Keep the Fore mysterious and subtle not some brute force weapon.

Actually the PT was filled with political and philosophical issues/concepts. Unfortunately many people didn't respond well to the politics part. But I personally thought it was genius, especially the way it was furthered explored in TCW series.

LOL After calling GenYsis better than T2, it's pretty clear his opinion on sci-fi/fantasy genres really doesn't count for squat. And however good or bad EP7 will be, Quan's opinion on it is the last thing anyone should be concerned with.
He is just bandwagoning, and ready to argue with everyone come December that Kylo Ren >>>> Darth Vader.

Same here. Abrams according to talk wants to amp up the power of the force big time.
That sounds like a terrible idea. I thought he was supposed to be all "character" focused, and not just turning this into a Michael Bay flick.
It's already bad enough there's a big super weapon in this that
Spoiler:
destroys SOLAR SYSTEMS

I'd wager you had to Google most of those directors to know who they are, let alone what films they made.3 exceptional directors?
David Fincher
Martin Scorcese
Danny BoyleAll proven to made exceptional movies across a number of genres.

I never loved T2 nor do I love Genisys. I do enjoy Genisys more so than T2. I don't give a good shit what the majority say on this or anything for that matter. I make my own way and form my own opinions regardless of the sheep out there. My opinion isn't determined by the flow of the tide or the resisting of the tide, kiddo.
The most entertaining part of your post is you leave multiple options for my intentions as to indicate a real lack of confidence in your opinion of me. Now don't muck up my Star Wars thread. This is my Star Wars coming out party and you won't detract from the force awakening in me. Abrams brought me to Trek now he will bring me to Star Wars. Tread carefully, sheep.

Both but I always classify this as sci Fi and most compare it to Star Trek which is sci Fi.
It's compared to Star Trek because both have space ships, and have the name STAR. But that's pretty much where the similarities end.
Star Trek's 100% Sci-Fi. SW is maybe a 50/50 Sci-fi and Fantasy mix. Although I personally see it as more Fantasy. Because it's not a story that has to take place in Space, or in a Sci-Fi setting. It just makes it cooler for doing so.

I would consider Star Wars to be more Science Fiction than fantasy.Although you're basically just splitting hairs.
Just because you don't get the difference doesn't mean I'm splitting hairs.
Star Trek IS Sci-Fi, whilst a futuristic Space world is just the Setting for Star Wars. It didn't have to be set in Space, but being set in Space certainly makes it a lot cooler, and attracts science fiction fans to it.
Star Trek however did have to be in Space, because Space defines what the show is about.
So aside from the STAR they are very different franchises.
And the difference is essential. Look how the Terminator franchise went down the toilet, because it was handed over to people who didn't get what genre it was. It was classically a Sci-Fi Horror, but it's been turned into a superhero franchise.
