I don't think I'll be able to stay sane trying to argue the same thing for another 3 pages, so I'm just going to step out and advise others to do the same.

There's no saving LeGenD from his own stupidity, but we've made enough of an argument to save anyone else reading this.

I can't remember if they actually died or not...

I don't believe he actually killed any of them. Just casually drained them.

Wookieepedia says the people causally lived out their lives on Byss, never knowing that Palpatine was draining their life energies (paraphrase).

Well sure he fed upon them and didn't mega kill them all but its not as if the people kept on living their ordinary lives? I always assumed there were at least some casualties but now Im not sure either.
