War on ISIS

Dear lord did people think millions of Americans died? Guess what? No war in the history of our country has killed even 1 million Americans. The most costly war in terms of lives was the Civil War, and even that didn't reach 1 million.

We got lucky, places like the Soviet Union lost millions upon millions of soldiers and millions of civilians too. That is kind of why the Soviet Union had some ill feelings towards us. They felt we basically sacrificed them. I think their total losses totaled over 20 million including civilians.

They clean their quarters, which is like 70% of all work they do while in service.

Actually, they also spend a good amount of time on watches and training (running drills) too. They have to be prepared for war. Don't know the specifics of everything the Army or Air Force does but I assume they march a lot too. Discipline has to be maintained.

I served in the Navy and we were rarely just sitting around on our asses. Especially not while we were at sea. Besides all the watches, fire drills, general quarters drills, and the multitude of things we did to keep the ship in good working order and looking good we also had to supply other ships in the fleet while at sea (my ship was a supply ship).

That's not nearly as bad as poor fools who think the U.S. is a democracy. LOL. I'd be much more ashamed of the latter. . 🙂

The problem is we are told repeatedly in school this is a democracy. Whether it truly is or not is irrelevant, I'm telling you this is why a lot of people think that way.

We are not, however, taught that millions of people died in WW2. Let alone hundreds of millions.

Actually Russia alone lost 5 million people. The death toll was far beyond 10-20 million, some estimates are close to 80 million.

Because by definition the US fits as a Democracy:

"government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system."

Republic also fits:

"a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them."

People who cry "The US is not a Democracy!" likely don't know the definition of the word.

I know but I was including civilians because they had a lot of civilian deaths.

Also, in Russia they say the death toll of military people was 8.7 million. Some others argue it goes to 14 million. Combined with civilian losses they say it could be anywhere from 20 million to 40 million.

You really think Soviets felt like that? There was not much we could do about Germany invading Russia..they share the same continent as Germany. We had to fight Japan.

Stalin himself at times expressed feelings like that. The thing was..Stalin thought we were letting them get so many casualties because we wanted to make sure after the war was over that the Soviet Union would not be as powerful as it once was.

Yea either way its estimated that 3% of worlds population died, which was around 2 billion back then. Needles to say everyone suffered. Thank the bankers for that war as well.

I find that odd don't you? That be like US blaming Russia for not helping us against Japan. And lets not forget, Stalin was no flower child, he killed 50 million of his own people. Which is more then Hitler.

I honestly don't find it odd in context. Just look at the number of losses they had compared to us. I'm not saying he was correct in his thinking, but I can somewhat understand it. Nearly 15% of the population of the Soviet Union was wiped out. We didn't even lose 1%.

I edited above.

Yeah Stalin was pretty bad. But then when you consider that..is it that far fetched to what he is claiming though? That we would want to knock them down a peg so once the war is over they don't try to start something?

Yes that totally makes sense.

Speaking of WW2 there is a great mini series that recently aired on History channel called "the last days of the nazi's". If people don't know, after the war we occupied Germany for a bit and interviewed hundreds of thousands of nazi's..trying to figure out how the hell this all happened and how they turned into..what they turned into.

So this series basically airs some of the interviews(interspersed with actors filling in to read some of the dialogue) and it gives a lot of incite into the nazi's and how the hell they got so crazy. If you have Comcast you can find it on demand right now for free, all 3 episodes, each 120 mins long.

Thanks, will def check that out. Do enjoy WWII documentaries, if they're done right.

Fixeded.

Imma watch it right now. Bootleg version of course.

Also it's not WW2, but you can find the sequel to "WW 2 in HD" on youtube with every episode free. It is "Vietnam in HD". The Vietnam in HD was available free on demand on the history channel section, but it was under a "memorial day" section of history channel so it might not be up anymore since memorial day is over.

Though WW2 in HD is another outstanding WW2 documentary. A lot of never before seen footage shown, and on top of that they have massively increased the quality of all footage taken during WW2.
