I just watched a Rick Ross video with the Joker in it.

Don't know why the Force Awakens made so much money when it was just a bad ripoff of A New Hope?

It was marketed by showcasing Batman, The Joker and Harley.
DC's most popular hero, and most popular villains.
Not really unknown.

Number is great no matter how you slice it. It will be front loaded to the max though.

Btw, the general audience doesn't even know Harley.

Honestly the people I went with had no idea Batman was going to be in it. He was literally a second or two in the trailer which was representative of his small cameo in the film.

Because it's Star Wars.

'Rogue One' will make $1b on name alone.

Well clearly a lot of people liked it.

But also it was the first Star Wars film in 10years, and people were excited for a new director taking on the franchise and also had the Disney marketing machine behind an already huge franchise.

They did scale back Batman and to a degree and Joker in the marketing. Most people I went with didn't know Batman was apart of Suicide Squad.

Plus, I told you this wasn't going to be a "Batman" movie.

We were talking about it being a Batman Universe movie. I always knew it wasn't going to be an actual Batman movie.

Joker was in the marketing a fair bit tbf. Although I'm not sure how much Joker means to people without Batman.

Edit- I told you the bad reviews would effect the OW 😛

Don't forget Olympics. That also had some effect, IMO. But I am disappointed it didn't beat BVS. It was a better movie than that.

I wouldn't even say it was a Batman universe movie, either. Whatever that means.

Lesser known property plus bad reviews.

But hey you called the Massive opening regardless.

Well you know with Joker/Harley. It gives a lot of background into his world of villains.

On track for 135mill OW.

Given this was an unknown property, That's a success for DC films now matter how anyone wants to cut it.

we still have to see what this does in its second week, third week, etc.... Bats V Supes did the same exact thing by opening up big too and we know what hapened afterward

That's something else entirely and depends on how audiences react to the quality of the film. Point is though WB obviously did a good job marketing this and getting interest in it for it to get such a large Opening with an unknown name like Suicide Squad.

It's not like BvS where the name sells it.

Oh it's going to nose dive no doubt. Good think it made a lot of money so fast.

Downhill from here.

Suicide squad has always had bat villains. Doesnt make it a bat universe book/movie. Squad also has flash villains too.

Well 1 Flash villain in this movie, accompanied by a single line cameo by Flash. Doesn't really compare to 3 Bat villains on the squad, a few scenes with Bats/Bruce and Batman's main villain featuring.

It was defo more Bat related than it was related to Superman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Cyborg and Aquaman combined.

Is like a Batman spin off franchise IMO (for the movies I mean).

Don't forget that most of the lineup and cast isn't part of the Bat universe. They had to show the Joker, to show Harley's origin. Batman wasn't needed, I guess, but he was hardly in the movie.

When I think Bat universe, I think the story is heavily Batman related, which it wasn't. The whole mission was to take down

Spoiler:
Enchantress

And she isn't Batman related.

Diablo isn't Bat related and he was a popular character in the film. Probably my favorite.
