You are surprised? They basically used the Batverse trinity (Joker,Batman, Harley) to promote Suicide Squad. You shouldn't be surprised that it got peoples attention.
Guardians of the galaxy with kinda in the same situation as Suicide Squad minus the A+ characters to promote it in the trailers.
They even have similar plots: "Criminals, thugs, misfits, get together to accomplish something". And that film did fine based on quality and word of mouth. SS should do well based on the batverse trilogy alone.
Look at the new BvS trailer. It was a major improvement over the frist because of the batman related stuff.

LMAO. It's already opened in Japan and is projected to do 25 million or so. It might not reach 1.4, but if it does, it will come down to the wire.

Not really. SS doesn't have the family vibe like GOTG. It's a new Joker and Leto needs to prove to the GA that he can pull off just as good as Heath.

Japan only does so much, plus it doesn't have very good legs. It will do 1.4 B, but that's still less than the first Avengers.

Meh, GOTG destroyed all its comic book movie competition that year which were all massive names: Spider-Man, Captain America and X-Men. So no embarrassment at all losing to GOTG Imho. I mean those were Huge numbers it pulled.
