CW was a Captain America movie. It performed better than the previous 2 Cap movies. Its not an Avengers movie.

Except the previous 2 Cap movies didn't Co-Star Iron Man, or feature the majority of the Avengers in significant roles.

I agree though that calling it Cap3 instead of Avengers3 limited its box office potential.

Still should have beat Iron Man 3.

That is kind of telling that the massive demand for comic book event movies has slightly decreased since A1 and IM3 came out IMO.

Despite the directors stating its a Cap movie. This guy is a massive troll who.

Iron Man, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Scarlet Witch, etc... It was primarily a Cap movie, but it had more draws than WS or the first Cap movie, obviously. Had great reviews a little bit higher OW than BVS, but still had boring legs, no matter how you look at it.

It destroyed BvS at the box office.

Suicide Squad will break $150 million OW.

Going big on this one.

That's what one poster (Who is right most of the time from what I see) is saying. And he thinks it will gross more than BVS, but time will tell.

The difference is that the MCU started with a great movie. That is what got people invested in the universe and their characters. People actually cared about Tony Stark, Coulson, Nick Fury, etc . And wanted to see more of them.
Add that all of the following movies for almost a decade have been mostly good with a few average ones, and have also got people invested in the various characters in the MCU. Caring about them and leaving people wanting more.
The DCU has started with a below average film and followed up with a bad film.
No one is really invested in their characters. Cant really root for them so far. People dont actually want to see more of them. Its more of being a fan of the source material than the characters shown on screen. And the hope that one day they will get them right.
So for now peeps like Golgo, its always the same tune, "The next movie will be GREAT. You'll see"

Quoted for truth.

Honestly, there hasn't been a bad MCU film yet. Even the ones that are "meh" to some people like The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2 and Thor: The Dark World I find to be quite entertaining and are above average compared to most comic book movies that came out before the introduction of the MCU, and definitely more up my alley than either MoS or BvS.

I doubt this movie will do great numbers, but should be enough for a sequel.

David Ayer is a far better director than Zack Snyder though. I have faith in him. Good word of mouth might turn people around, or at least that's what I'm hoping for.

SS doesn't have the characters to pull great numbers, and DC doesn't have the goodwill built up that Marvel does that let GotG do so well.

But I guess we'll see.

people still crying over Civil War not beating Iron Man 3 at the friggin' box office sheesh.....

as for the opening weekend for Suicide Squad, well since Hack Snyder still had a lot of say, I'd would think that Suicide Squad might open up to $55-75 million.. after all Will Smith isn't the box office draw he once was, Margot Robbie, although hot, can't really carry a film.. people might walk out the theater after counting up Batfleck's ten minutes of film..

Joker? Batman? A movie doesn't need great characters to do box office numbers.

The awareness and buzz is there:

"Friday Morning Update: Suicide Squad released its latest trailer during the MTV Music Awards this past Sunday where it took Twitter by storm, securing 231,473 tweets on Monday – sixth largest trailer debut of all time (it also owns the third largest). In addition, its positive to negative ratio of 11 to 1 was almost three times that if its last trailer (4 to 1) which is a strong sign that the campaign and indeed film is winning over fans. Generally latter trailers for event films such as this wane significantly in buzz as time goes on once the cat is out the bag and awareness is established. When that doesn’t happen and buzz levels remain the same or grow its generally a very good sign for the demand for the film (Deadpool comes to mind as another event film that was able to do this). Fans might be a bit weary of big ensemble films after the critical failure of Dawn Of Justice but if this can go the extra mile and secure some critical praise before release it might surprise us all"

I'll post the long range forcast again.

Suicide Squad (Warner Bros.)

PROS:

– A strong recognizable cast top-lined by Will Smith who is about as experienced as it gets for summer blockbuster hits.

– Social media has been electric for the release, both Twitter and Facebook. It has been in the top 10 weekly Twitter charts every week of 2016 so far and is one of only two films (the other being Avengers: Age Of Ultron) to see two separate trailers generate over 200,000 tweets in a single day.

– Sequels have had trouble at times this summer living up to previous expectations. Suicide Squad is a net new film property which, though based off of popular comic characters, is a very different type of superhero film. Walking partially in the tracks started by Deadpool it focuses on anti-heroes and villains which should prove to be a refreshing deviation from the numerous comic adaptations that have come before it.

– Arguably the most famous villain ever is The Joker, and this film will mark his first return to the screen since the late Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning performance in The Dark Knight. Jared Leto’s performance is already drawing a lot of attention to the film in and of itself and is yet another reason for its huge social media footprint.

CONS:

– Aside from The Joker and arguably Harley Quinn, many of the characters in the film are not household names which could limit its overall reach.

– The fact that the film pushed for a PG-13 rating could work against Warner Bros. in the long run, since this will severely limit the type of carnage and gruesome acts that can be portrayed. This effectively pulled out much of the teeth the film could potentially have had, especially in light of how effective Deadpool was at offering an adult comic adaptation without sacrificing box office revenue.

Prediction: 98 million opening weekend

If Suicide Squad gets anything less than 80 million opening weekend, this summer has been a true disappointment.

And LOL @ SS only doing 50-55 million. If Legend of Tarzan can almost nag 40 million OW, then why can't SS do a lot more? Something that is a MUCH bigger draw and literally crushes Tarzan in buzz and anticipation. 😂

It will do more than $50 million on opening day alone.

What about them?

They aren't a big part of the movie based on everything we've seen.

A comic movie needs characters people know and care about.

Well tbf no one cared about Deadpool last year.

Yeah, DP proved you don't have to have the characters to be a big hit. At least in the COMIC genre.

^ And it proved that you don't have to be Marvel Studios to make a hit out of unknown characters.

That said Fox had a truly excellent marketing campaign for Deadpool.

That is darth troll who seems to obsess over box office draw more than quality of the film like golgo. They aren't fans of the product just want to argue based off box office numbers.

SS shouldn't have that kind of pressure on it though. It's not BvS or Civil War.

Ayer recently stated about there being a bit of pressure on this due to the negative reception of BvS, and how it was never intended to be a film with that kind of pressure on it.

This was supposed to be DC's GOTG type project, that if it did end up being a mega hit, that would be a great surprise for them. Now it seems it HAS to be a mega hit for them, which is unfortunate.

Obsession over dem numbers like they matter to you.
