DC has shit the bed lately in terms of quality IMO both to the general public and to the critics. It's fans also bragged about the darker tone which DC has now basically retreated because the general public rejected this film. Their tail went in between their legs and they lost their sense of pride.
That's because you don't like DC.

Do I really need to list all the other comic movies that didn't rake in the dough?
SS is filled with unknown characters coming off the heels of a widely disliked DC movie smh.
A list character? No. A list actor? Will Smith is still a draw overseas, so SS SHOULD do well OS.
All three movies Darth named did really well, because they offered something new at the right time. Not because they are A list characters.

Tony was always in the top 3 of the Avengers. Of course he was an a-lister.You don't need the moneymaker status of Batgod/Superdouche or Wolverine/Spider-Man to be considered an a-list comic book character.
I'm talking about being relatively known to the GA. That's Marvel's claim to fame is making B listers, A listers. At the time Iron Man came out, he wasn't at that level.
Even Feige acknowledges that people would consider that the Avengers, including Iron Man are B to C level heroes. Fortunately he doesn't look at it that way.
"People would say that Iron Man, Thor, even the Avengers were B-level or C-level characters but we never looked at it that way," Feige adds. "In the case of Guardians, we wanted to do a big space movie. I'm a Star Wars nerd and wanted to do an out-in-space epic. It was never about what it the most popular character and how many books each sold in a month; it was about what we thought would make a great movie."

This article would also indicate that IM is a B level hero. In the COMIC community, he would definitely be A list, but nobody was begging for a IM movie before 2008.

doubtful unless Margot Robbie proves she can act and carry a film
also batman has been DC's top selling comic book for a long time, yet that didn't make Bats v Supes a good film, let alone a successful one

I really love the short term memory of people.
Prior to IM1 the Avengers basically were a team of B-Listers. The exceptions being Hulk and Cap.
IM and Marvel Thor were not household names at all Lol. In fact Harley might have been more well known due to Batman:TAS.
And what you don't think SS's cast are just as famous as IM1's cast?
The "Comic Book Boom" wasn't necessarily a 1 time effect on those kind of new properties as Deadpool has again shown.
GOTG didn't really show much connection to the MCU at all. There was no mention of the Avengers. Just Thanos and Collector who were both few second end credit cameos. I get it had the Marvel tag but so did the Fantastic Four movies.
If Marvel was the Only reason GOTG did so phenomenally well, then why didn't Ant-Man make anywhere near as much?
No you don't need to list all the comic book flops over the years. But given Superman Returns flopped, I'd say it's less to do with "big names" and more to do with "bad films" with "bad marketing."
SS has A-List stars, has one of the most Iconic villains of all time, stars a fan favorite with Harley Quinn, and features frigging Batman. So it's hardly the risk IM1, GOTG and Deadpool were.
I reckon the BvS hate is overrated. Was a disappointment for sure, but I think if nothing else people generally buzzed off Batfleck.
