That's how it was originally drawn but again due to fan backlash it was changed.

I don't know if was "due to fan backlash," but it doesn't matter. Trailers aren't canonical; Gohan never went SSJ in BoG.

He can, but why would he?

When he fights Beerus, he stays in 'mystic form'. He only turns SSJ so they can all hold hands with yellow hair.

Probably felt left out with all the others having golden hair. Even though baby Pan proves that it isn't required.

But no the real answer is they liked the image of all those Super Saiyans together and being Mystic kind ruins it.

There is no logical reason for Gohan to go SSJ, when he also has his Mystic state available. I was just pointing out that as of BoG, he could access both forms w/o an issue.

Yet by the time of RoF, Gohan was no longer sure that he could even access SSJ anymore(nevermind his Mystic state):

This is important because judging by Pan's newborn appearance in RoF, it takes place a year at the most after BoG:

...Which probably equates to the single fastest power-neutering in DB history.

Ok. Yes, it's also strange that he does not know if he can go SS because he has become weaker?

SSJ is just a multiplier, doesn't matter if he is weaker, he should be able to access it. Even Goten and Trunks can.

He didn't train for years after Cell Saga, but could still turn SSJ2.

It's f*cking retarded. Seems like Toriyama is going out of his way to shit on Gohan nowadays. 🙁

One of the things that was the spine of much of Z, was Gohan's arc.

I understand at Buu, Toriyama was told to put that aside in favor of Goku's, but still!

The thing about Gohan is that he has never really wanted to be as great as he could be. He is a scholar, not a fighter. If given the choice, Gohan will always choose to study, not train. The only exceptions are when he has to train to protect the Earth and even then he never saw himself as the great defender of the planet until Goku basically said "do it or Cell kills us".

The ending of Z basically confirms that there is no one true successor to Goku as the defender of the planet. Just that so long as everyone contributes it all works out in the end, which is why they go out of their way to give everyone a moment in the final fight with Kid Buu.

True, but Mystic struck me as 'the scholar's way.' Rather than powered by rage, it made him strong, but more level headed. Gohan didn't want to be a fighter, but he *did* want to be able to protect people.

It'd make sense if, like, Piccolo, he gained strength from meditation.

Yeah, I always thought Gohan was supposed to be Goku's successor since the Cell saga, but it seemed like Toriyama scrapped that idea in favor of retaining Goku as sole protagonist.
He had moments of what seemed like confusion when he decided to make Mystic Gohan, then made up Vegetto, then ultimately decided Goku to deliver the finishing move to Buu.

Gohan looks scrawny as shit too.

You guys think Mystic Gohan could have contended with 4th form Frieza?

Just wanted to Say SSGSSJ SHIT STOMPS EVERYONE

what do you mean by that? Even SS4 Gogeta?

In Toriyama's original draft, it was Gohan who prevailed over Buu. It was actually the manga/anime execs who ultimately forced him to scrap that draft in favor of one where Goku prevailed. That's why the end of the Buu saga seems particularly scatterbrained.

Definitely not.

Which makes it seem weird to me that he ran with depowered Gohan so much.
