Admittedly it has been a while since I played the game, but I don't recall having any performance issues when playing it on the xbox 360.
Nor do I.
It's 30 frames per second normally anyways, the occasional dip won't he very noticeable, if at all. The PS3 had the real performance issues, if memory serves.

Unfortunately, performance was fairly spotty. Screen tearing was quite abundant due to the engine trying to maintain a locked 60 FPS frame rate. Night time settings did help to achieve this frame rate but it would often drop to the lower 30s at times. Day time settings saw similar performance but the random frame drops continued. Odd as it may sound, whenever characters would move around, the 60 FPS frame rate seemed incredibly fluid. When things stopped, the frame rate seemed to drop down to the low 40s. We’re not quite sure why this was happening and could be attributed to sub-standard optimization in places. It’s still odd all the same.

Yeah thankfully I don't have it on PS3.Now the only question is if it's best to stay a mage or eventually become a sorcerer. I never got far enough before to where I could change vocations
Sorcerer should get access to better spells.
Or you can try mage knight, or whatever it's called.
Just remember to pick your pawns to fill in weak points. In your case, I'd roll warriors, fighters, assassins maybe. Anything to aggro them while you nuke them.
I found Doom Eternal much harder than Doom 2016.
I played it on console (my PC is too old)...and I had to push the difficulty level to Easy after the first 2-3 levels...it's just gets crazy and the game requires pinpoint precision which is hard with a controller.
Also, I didn't find it fun getting destroyed 5-6 times in a row...and while it has an extra life system (very neat by the way)...i lost all of them in one battle and it drove me nuts (can't save scum them back)
Once I turned the difficulty back to a lower setting, the game became much more fun. You still have to be careful but you didn't gang raped by a group of enemies.
There is a side activity that unlocks an alternate BFG and those situations were ****ing brutal (made sense considering it's an unlock) but even on Easy, I was barely making it past.
I understand some people love games that are difficult but I like it when games are expertly balanced between challenging yet fun...without being ****ing annoying.
